All About Hand Percussion: Everything You Need to Know to Start Playing Now!, Book & Enhanced CD (Alfred's World Percussion Series)

After taking numerous music courses on line for the last seven years, as well as being in a drum circle group, I have learned to play the drums and various other percussion instruments fairly well; however, I am always looking to increase my knowledge and music playing skill level.I recently purchased this Alfred (All about Hand Percussion: Everything you need to know to start playing now by Kalani, which includes an enhanced CD) musical instruction manual for a bargain price on Amazon.This amazing 68 page large format soft cover book provides an overview of 47 percussion instruments, explaining the rhythm patterns and playing techniques used for each instrument. This manual is well written and easy to understand for anyone who has a passion for learning percussion instruments. A gem. From the editing, to the quality and layout of the material,it's comprehensive yet compact.. A great beginner's primer with concise examples(CD included) on how to play. Advanced percussionists who perhaps want to learn an instrument they haven't explored yet will be well served as well. 47 covered in total. With some study and practice you can accompany your local drum circle, etc in no time without having to be a virtuoso or use the material as a building block to advance. I will say it's helpful to have some prior knowledge of standard musical notation, but with open ears and if needed, some assistance, this can be overcome in no time.

I haven't even tried the CD yet, but the book itself is terrific. It covers an amazing number of instruments, including info on the instrument itself as well as how to play. These books are definitely worth buying!

A very good guide for playing a wide variety of hand percussion. A good place to start and the cd is very useful, too!

Covers a ton of percussion instruments. The enhanced CD is really a miniature DVD that shows how each instrument is played.

It is very easy to read and covers all the basics as it claims. It is just what I was looking for!
