D'Addario Rico Graftonite Tenor Sax Mouthpiece, A7

Perfect for the beginner looking to move up
Hands down the best mouthpiece you can buy for the money as a beginner. I was looking to move up from my Yamaha 4C and bought a 6* that was a couple hundred bucks. That gave my tone a little too much freedom, so I bought this 5C as a stepping stone. The sound difference between the 4C and 5C is incredible. I no longer feel constrained, but I'm also not feeling so lost and I'm easily able to hold a note. Of all of the money I've spent on this hobby, this has been the best value.

Good Step up Mouthpiece at a low price
I’ve been playing this mouthpiece for a few months and I gotta say, it’s pretty damn good. The tone quality is surprisingly good for a mouthpiece at this price and is generally responsive across the whole of the instrument. I have one problem with it though: it’s rough intonation in the upper register. It tends to be a bit sharp after Bb but you can work that out through practice. Mine came with a slightly crooked table but that might just be a defect on my piece. Overall, it’s a good mouthpiece for the price and would serve a student more than well for the entirety of high school. (I also found that it worked well with Java red reeds)

Interesting design, rich sound.
The fist impression is way!Plastic feels somewhat cheep, but performance is outstanding!Design- very unusual - i have not seen such before:Baffle starts as a concave step at tip opening and continues as shallow long rollover.Tip opening:Long and gradual.Sound is powerful and rich.Responsible and controllableUpdate:Ordered&got C5 model, because C7 is too air consuming for me. Very happy with. Considering B-series to try them...

Pleasantly surprised
Having several children playing instruments I know what Rico reeds are all about. While looking to enhance my daughters playing with her Tenor Sax I researched a lot of mouthpieces. Most were at the end of my budget or beyond. When I came upon these Rico Graftonite mouthpieces and the wide variety of sizes and styles, and looking at the price I thought I could try out some of these without breaking the budget. Talk about surprised. My daughter is so happy with these, and the sound is great. She uses the Jazz reeds with these and she has been doing great, even in competition. For the price, you can afford to experiment. For the performance and the sound, they exceeded my expectations.

Pretty nice mouthpiece - great price
Reed sits a little differently on this mouthpiece than my Yamaha (which I accidentally chipped). I like the sound it gives me and I'm getting used to it but it feels 'bigger' in my mouth than my previous mouthpiece. Would still recommend and for the price it's not a huge investment to try for a different sound. I may still replace my old Yamaha with the same model but this one gives me a little brighter sound which is nice if I need to project more (i.e. outdoor venues)

Worth it, not just for beginners!
So originally I intended on buying a basic mouthpiece I can practice, shed and maybe preform on because I am mainly an alto saxophonist. I heard the Rico aka D'addario line of plastic mouthpieces where pretty good for the money and so I bought one not knowing fully how it plays and boy! Was I surprised! Full open sound, great feel, and overall super comfortable to switch on. I'd totally recommend this to beginners/ intermediate and doublers saxophonists out there needing a first jazz mouthpiece without that price tag

Great MP, Amazing for the price
Bought it based on other reviews and really how far could you go wrong for this price. Replacing a cheap US Selmer MP. Here's what I really like, it has a middle or the road response. That may sound like a negative but what it really means it that it is somewhere between my Berg Larsen metal MP and my Selmer S80 C*. The Berg is bright and bold and the Selmer is smooth and creamy. The Graftonite C7 can play edgy or smooth depending on how much you push it. So if you knew you were going to play smooth jazz or classical you may choose the Selmer. If you knew you were going to rock out you might pick the Berg but the Rico Graftonite can do both. Throw in the price of $20 or so bucks vs. $150+ and it's pretty impressive. Wish I had one of these in my school days but didn't know any better.

Fantastic Value
The Rico mouthpieces offer an affordable way to understand how different tip clearances and chamber sizes affect what comes out of the horn whan you blow.Great value for money and well made item!

Love these mouthpieces
I already have an A5 and its worth at least three times the price.i use it for practice and studio work (lovely dark rich tone.similair to a Link Tonedge but nicer imo). I wanted the A7 for a tad more resistance and volume for live gigs. Works a treat. Great mouthpiece if youre after the 'cool jazz' sound. If youre after a more hard edged ,cutting sound its not for you. Try the Graftonite instead.

A good alternative to Yamaha
A very good alternative for those that either cannot afford the Yamaha version or cannot get one (for some reason Amazon nor the marketplace are selling the Yamaha tenor sax mouthpiece). It's miles better that the one that came with the outfit, though if you are a beginner like me you would be advised to go on the Internet and find out the difference between A, B & C and also 1 to 7, as they are all different sizes, some are easy for beginners and some hard to play, and all produce different sounds. I picked a B3 because it is an average between them all.I would also recommend a synthetic reed ; a tad expensive but it lasts for ages, can be left on the mouthpiece and never needs wetting. synthetic reed

Fab mouthpiece for the money
A really great mouthpiece at an affordable price. Plays easily in all octaves from low Bb to high F#. I use with a java green 2.5 reed.I have much more expensive mouthpieces and this one is just as good.I would recommend for all beginners to advanced players.
