Being in my 40’s , a good primer is a must if applying any kind of makeup-This one doesn’t cause me to breakout like others ( even though I don’t have acne issues)And glides on so smoothly-Even when used alone- it makes my face look so much betterPlus, I don’t like wearing sunscreen because so many facial brands are sticky or leave a residue - the SPF 20 is completely unnoticeable on my face - otherwise I’d skip the sunscreen- a definite no no

Using this smashbox photo finish, I require half as much liquid makeup, plus the coveruup goes on much smoother than when i use any other primer, or no primer. I also do not have that heavy pancake look, unless i add too much liquid or powder, which i strive to avoid. So it adds to a natural look.While there is a moist , sometimes oily look initially at times, it invariably very rapidly absorbs into my "combination" skin so that it moisturizes for me. I use smashboxprimer every single day, so that have nicer looking skin even on days when I take a makeup break.Importantly, this is the ONLY way that I manage to use daily sunscreen as we all should be doing. I live in Florida, and am age 65. This product was introduced to me by my 27 year old daughter.

If this weren’t so expensive, I’d use it every day! I’m 61 and I have very dry skin. I put it on over my moisturizer and before makeup, and often, with no makeup. It seems to fill in fine lines and make my skin look smoother.It is a small amount for the price so I’m still trying to find something to use every day that’s less $.

I really like this product. It seems like it’s going to be greasy but it isn’t. It absorbs into your skin and helps with lines and foundation setting. I like it but it is a bit pricey for the amount you get.

I really like the feel of this primer. It goes on silky smooth. You must shake well every use. You can’t tell you have it on it’s so sheer. I have used better primers coverage wise but the spf keeps me coming back to this one. I do feel it is overpriced for the amount you get.

I’ve been using this product for years and will be very sad if they ever stop making it. One tube lasts me about 6 months with daily use. You only have to apply a very small amount. Goes on very smoothly and leaves a nice surface for makeup. I’ve tried other primers but this is my favorite.

I have combination skin, this primer is the only one that works well meaning no breakouts, lightweight and it gives me sun protection. It does smell like sunscreen but there is no color to it, it’s a perfect matte finish for setting my makeup or even for those days where I don’t wear anything.

An essential product for me - really love the texture and it definitely keeps my make up in place all day

I've used the original clear/translucent smashbox primer for years now and have never found another to beat it (I've tried many as its fairly expensive) I've even tried more expensive options when feeling flush or given a free sample but none have come close regarding the smoothing effect on larger pores which is my main issue.I wanted something with a reasonable spf for the summer, as I've tried mac's primer with factor 50 and while good it doesn't minimise pores, and 'peels' off during the day. I have oily skin and have never found a separate facial spf cream that didn't break me out, or make me look greasy and make applying makeup when I feel like it almost impossible. So I thought it was time to give the smashbox spf20 dermaxyl primer a try - I hadn't used it before because I don't consider factor 20 high enough, however as I've had no luck with other sun protection I decided factor 20 was better than nothing.This primer isn't bad, but it's not a stand out product like it's clear original counterpart. The texture is more watery somehow and it just doesn't have that pore masking magic in the same way the original does. I can't say the dermaxyl complex has done anything regarding the long term look of wrinkles, but the ingredients; vitamin A + E, grapeseed extract & green tea, are good and not harmful so may as well use something with them in as not. Even if they are in too small a quantity medically to do anything much.None of the smashbox foundations have much effect on the longevity of my make up and I need to touch up almost as much as when not wearing a primer.I won't buy this again and will continue looking for a good facial sun screen that's lightweight and doesn't make you greasy and spotty. If like me your main concern is areas of open pores or rough texture then you I don't believe you could find better than the smashbox original clear primer. If sun protection is most important I would say definitely give this a try as it may not be perfect for me but it's pretty good overall.
