Large Scala Wooden Chess Gift Set (16" 3D Chessboard with 3.5" Chess Pieces + 2 Extra Queens)

Like other reviewers, I was not a fan of the chess pieces which came with this board. The color of the wood does not match the board as others stated. However, I purchased this board for chess pieces I already had. I'm happy with its unique multi-level design and it is very well-made.....it is not exquisitely-made, but well-made. By this, I mean it is rustic and a bit coarse, like a "farmhouse" styled piece, not a finely polished, "luxury" piece. I paid $49 and I think it was well worth the money. Between purchasing materials, cutting the pieces, assembling, painting/staining... it would take at least a solid 8-hours to try to recreate this board, and my time is worth more than $6/hour.

Got this for my 9 year old grandson, he loved the stepped chess board. I found the quality and finish to be excellent and will provide years of matches in the family.

I like the board but, the pieces are not as good as I would like. The knight is very square in the face. The king's base is too small for the height. Thinking about getting other pieces to use. Although they will probably cost twice as much then the set.

This was a gift for our 13 year old grandson. He was very happy to receive it. The quality looks very good and the 3-D board is a cool looking effect.

This one is for a game over drinks in the right ambience. The pieces look too simple compared to the elegance of the board. I am planning to try it with metal pieces by Agirlgle. Will post images soon. By the way, the pieces are arranged for chess960 by my cousin at US 😉; I am yet to get my hands on this board.Update: The bases are small and the pieces dont do enough justice for the board. So I used the metal pieces from Agirlgle international CB with metal pieces. The result was as anticipated - Fantastic! See pictures.

This Is a great product. The board is sturdy and well finished. The pieces are to match!! I would recommend this chess board to anyone looking for a good, well designed, beautiful chess set. I love this chess board.

I bought this chess board for my grandson who love chess. He has other boards but he really like this one. The quality is good.

This set is the centerpiece of my collection. The squares are nicely contrasted in color. The only reason I took off a star was because of the pieces. The pieces don't match the board (they're brown and natural) and the quality is horrendous. If you get this set, go ahead and order some pieces at the same time. I got a nice set of ebonised and natural pieces that actually match the board and add to the beauty.

The board is not expertly finished. I do like the design but quality control was certainly missing when they released this item. $50 would be a appropriate price for this chess set
