Parafilm© works but maybe it's stale?
After a career in chemistry I was well aware of the utility of Parafilm© as a tool for sealing beakers and screw-cap sample vials to keep the cap in place when shipping, or to provide an extra seal to keep out moisture. Now I use it to keep bananas from becoming over-ripe too soon. The item I ordered and received was boxed 4" wide (catalog designation "Parafilm M PM996"). The box and product look the same as I remember from my lab days and I looked forward to applying the tricks of the trade in handling this handy though sometimes aggravating tool.Good news/bad news: one characteristic of Parafilm was the difficulty of separating the film from its backing. My best approach was to crinkle the edge until a corner separated a little. But what I received was easy to separate; in fact, the film fell away on its own. I tried to show this in one of the uploaded photos. Also, the film is not as flexible and stretchy as I remember it. It should stretch to essentially double its resting length, but the material I received was more like rubber than chewing gum.It may be that I received a box from old stock (the box printing seemed a bit faded) and that the material has dried out with time. It does seem to be getting a little more flexible towards the middle of the roll. There's no expiration or manufacturing date that I could find, unless it's encoded into the barcode (third photo).Bottom line: I didn't subtract a star because it's still usable.

Good product if you know how to use it
Very tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing. It isn’t like tape. It’s made to be lightly stretched and then it molds and adheres. The stretching isn’t optional but you have to be slow with it or it will break. Instructions would be great with it but the audience isn’t likely a general consumer as it’s really a product for specific purposes.

Not just for scientists.
I have many perfumes and this film is absolutely perfect for sealing the tops of the bottles to prevent evaporation. Amazing that it is easily manipulated and it stays in place. Not sticky in any way and is very easily removed when necessary. I have also been able to reuse, to a point. You can cut to size and use two or more layers if needed. I suppose there are many other uses besides perfume and science. As I only use this for glass or crystal perfume bottles, I do not know if this film will work for any other materials.

Best Product You Never Knew You Needed
I have worked in a lab and used parafilm for multiple professional uses, but only recently decided to purchase some for home use. It is simply amazing. It has a great amount of stretch, so the amount you're purchasing here will last forever. It is also is a great sealant, and in a work setting I have used it many times to seal up something with liquid and it generally will keep the liquid from evaporating. Personally, I primarily use it for more crafty or household repair type work, but I think it would work fantastic to seal food or bottles when traveling. We recently used it to temporarily plug a very small and slow leak in a pipe under our bathroom sink until it could be officially fixed, and it worked amazing! My fiance is a little more worried about using something initially intended for lab use with food, which I understand, but I think it could still work well. It would be like a way better version of cling wrap.

Cracked a Bit
They actually stretch really well, but they do take a bit to understand how to use. They were truly sterile, which was awesome, but after sitting out for a month or so, it's been cracking a bit. If it's necessary, it's worth the money.

Parafilm M - 5259-04LC PM996 All Purpose Laboratory Film
Awesome product for mycology if you're doing petri dishes and into mycology, this is the product for you works great for me it took a few times to learn how to use it because it's so wide but just cut about a one-inch piece and peal it and fold it and stretch and wrap it around your petri dish it will go around 2x making it sealed and stress free for your mycology experimentsGood luck.Recommended and will buy again someday but this will last me a long time.

Great way to duper seal jars and bottles
I used to work in labs where we used parafilm to wrap around lidded bottles, vials, jars to create a better barrier against air and/or moisture. When i started painting fabric i needed a better seal for my paints so they would last longer. I was excited to find parafilm on Amazon and haven’t looked back. Hooray!
