Examining product before review solves MOST complaints BUT also answers questions for others!
Most <5 star reviews whined about how the product failed to protect the user from stabbing themselves / carbide if dropped as the rubber tip is insufficient. After reading PAGES of reviews stating “other than that, it’s great!”, the price point and next day delivery won out and I thought, why not? After opening the package and fiddling with the product for about 15 seconds, I had the answer to my ONLY question AND the resolution to MOST negative reviews I came across... (The only other negative comment I saw questioned if the tips were indeed tungsten carbide - as an accountant, I do not have the expertise to make this determination.) Given that the manufacturer was smart enough to cap one end, it’s highly plausible they have some basic understanding of Darwin’s theory of natural selection. The product arrives with one rubber tip covering the tungsten carbide tip while the other is aluminum capped. (See first image.)IN ORDER TO RESOLVE USER / TIP PROTECTION ISSUE:1. Recognize each connection point of the etching pen with the exception of the rubber tip UNSCREWS from the next connection point - just like the aluminum cap unscrews from its end of the etching pen. (See second image.)2. Unscrew the connection point between the rubber tip end and handle body. (See third image.)3. Turn the rubber tipped section around and SCREW it back into handle body. (See fourth image.)4. Both carbide tips AND the user are now protected from this product. (See last image.)** NOTE: The purchaser/user left this review to answer the ONLY question she had about the product for anyone else with the same inquiry - Is there a resolution to the issue of protection for the rubber ended tip? The answer is yes. Bear in mind, the product’s usefulness, sharpness, and capabilities were well documented in previous reviews and do not warrant another repetition. Personally, I purchased this product to label and identify keys for multiple deadbolts which all happened to use the same key blank making them indistinguishable from each other. The product solves my problem, and the review will hopefully resolve everyone else’s...

two for $8 good value, but overall cheap feel, lots of improvements to be made!
The tips are nice and sharp. I was able to write on glass, aluminum, even hardened tool steel! The feel in your hand is not the greatest. I would like to have the smooth aluminum shaft that interacts with your fingers made less smooth to increase grip. Possibly knurling the aluminum shaft, or adding a rubber grip pen sleeve would be a great improvement. It would also be nice if there were two rounded aluminum end caps per pen instead of one and a small rubber tip protector that is easily lost. the finish on all the components is inconsistent, some parts are shiny some dull. but overall, two pens with 4 tips total for $8 is still a pretty good value in my book!

You get what you pay for
At the price point, it's hard to complain about the product being poorly made. Yet, the black part is made of hollow plastic and feel horrible to hold. The ends screw in and out but its not very smooth at all. I think you're better off spening the $5 on a single decent pen instead of 2 double ended ones.

Great for Marking/Engraving Metal Tools
The Engraving Pen is great. It marks metal tools and even my two dog bowls for different dogs. The pen will also take regular AAA batteries, which is a plus. I really like it.
