Good little locks. One nit to avoid when programming the combo.
These are good little locks. Sturdy for their size. However I wasted one of them because the instructions were confusing. If you mis-program the combo, it can easily end up with an unintended combo, rendering the lock useless. Follow the instructions that come with the lock. Just before you set the new combo, you push the shackle down while rotating it to the right. AFTER you set the new combo, you are to rotate it back to the left side. During that left rotation, DO NOT HOLD DOWN the shackle; simply rotate it until it pops up. Your new combo is then set.

Reliable, Simple Combination Locks That Do Exactly What They Should
These Amazon Basics 4-digit combination locks are solid, no-nonsense accessories that work exactly as expected. I picked up the 2-pack for gym bags, lockers, and travel gear, and they’ve been dependable every time I’ve used them. Right away, the combination mechanism feels smooth and easy to set. Changing the code takes just a few seconds, and once you’ve set your personal combination, the lock stays reliable. I haven’t experienced any sticking or misalignment with the dials, even after regular handling and daily use. The build quality is exactly what you’d hope for in a basic padlock. The body feels sturdy, and the shackle has enough strength to stand up to everyday use — gym lockers, luggage, backpacks, storage bins, etc. They’re not heavy-duty security locks, but for gym and travel use where you just need simple theft deterrence and peace of mind, they’re more than adequate. Using them is simple and intuitive. The numbers are clear and easy to read, even in dim locker room lighting, and the locks open and close cleanly without any fuss. They don’t rattle excessively, and the black finish looks clean and understated without drawing attention. This 2-pack adds extra value because you can cover more than one item at a time. I’ve used one on a gym locker and the other on a travel bag during trips, and both work just as well in each situation. It’s handy to have a spare around for other uses like securing tool bags or outdoor gear. Overall, these are reliable, straightforward combination locks that do exactly what you need them to do for everyday security. If you want heavy military-grade protection, you’ll need something beefier, but for gym, sports, school lockers, or travel luggage, these are dependable and easy to use. Five stars.

weird but would do the job
When it comes to basic combination locks, the Amazon Basics 4-Digit model gets the job done, but barely. At first glance, these locks have a pretty standard no-frills design in an all-black color scheme. However, upon closer inspection, the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. The body of the lock feels quite flimsy and lightweight, almost to the point of being concerningly cheap and insubstantial. It's made of thin metal that doesn't exactly inspire confidence in its durability or ability to withstand abuse. I wouldn't trust these locks to secure anything too valuable. Setting the combination code is a bit of a head-scratcher if you're used to standard combination lock mechanisms. The process for setting and resetting the code deviates from other popular lock brands like Master Lock in a somewhat convoluted way. It takes some getting used to and the included instructions are less than crystal clear. Once you finally get the hang of the code setting process and have the lock operational, it functions as you'd expect a basic combo lock to. The internal locking mechanism seems secure enough for low-risk applications like a school locker, gym locker, toolbox, or similar. But I wouldn't rely on it for high-security needs. Where these Amazon locks do deliver is value. Getting a 2-pack for the price makes them quite economical, especially if you just need some entry-level locks for light-duty uses. They get the job done without breaking the bank. However, if you need a lock you can really depend on or one that will see a lot of use and abuse, you're probably better off spending a bit more for a higher quality and more robustly constructed model from a trusted brand. These Amazon Basics locks are really only ideal for light, occasional use when keeping costs low is the top priority. So in summary - they're cheap, they're functional in a very basic way, but they also feel and perform like a budget purchase. Great for securing things of low importance, but you get what you pay for. For anything more demanding, look elsewhere and be willing to spend more.

Not as cheap as the price
I bought these for a locker at my nephews school. It was super easy to set the code and is durable. People tried to get into it but couldn’t. It fit right on the locker and has also fit on camping equipment when I needed to bring medicine on a trip. It seems weatherproof though I haven’t used it that way. It looks and feels sturdy and like it would actually keep someone out of what you’re locking up.

Clunky. Don't change the combo once you set it.
I usually use the same combo for identical looking locks (I purchased several sets for general purpose locks) Then once in a while I'll change all the combos for security. Don't do this. The reset may or may not take. If it doesn't take, the new combo is stuck in some mysterious state. You'll end up trying to guess what the new one is. By the time, you figure this out, it is way too late to return these useless clunkers. Their only remaining useful purpose is to practice locking picking. ***** If you take a look at the ratings for this product you will see that 1 star ratings are 10% of the total ratings. Now a friend of mine is an MBA who majored in marketing. His take is a good product has less than 3% 1 star ratings. Any product with 10% 1 star ratings is probably suffering from serious quality control problems. And if you read many many reviews, you'll realize the product works most of the time but apparently about 10% of the time it's completely defective. The take away lesson is - many companies have figured out Amazon's return window. They will allow long term problems to pass through quality control (assuming they have quality control). Pay attention to the percentage of 1 and 2 star ratings. Many customers initially submit happy reviews that quickly turn sour when the product fails. My new personal rule which I formulated after reading all my one star reviews - if the combined total of the 1 and 2 star ratings exceeds 5% I look for a different product. If they all exceed 5%, then I'll change to a completely different product category that might get the job done. If that doesn't work, I buy direct from a company that has better policies than Amazon.

Good sturdy lock
Only giving three stars because one lock will not work. I cannot get it to take a new code. The one that does work is great. I use it at the gym and on my bike chain. If I could get the other lock to work it would have been a 5 star review. Have had for about a year.
