Nice shelf, easy to put together. It was picked based on its dimensions and price. I have an odd wall in my son's nursery I wanted a tall but skinnier bookshelf to fit. It's perfect except it does need some time for the smell to dissipate

The media could not be loaded.  This little storage unit came in three boxes. One contained the shelving and assembly hardware, the other two contained the wicker baskets to be used once the unit was assembled. The shelving was about what I expected, veneer coated MDF shelves with cam-lock hardware. The color description and the actual color were a little "off" as far as I'm concerned. The shelving is close to what I would call a "brown black." The fit and finish was actually pretty precise compared to some other similar pieces I've purchased over the years. It took me a little more than an hour to unpack and assemble things, and another half hour cleaning up Styrofoam chips and the like that got scattered during unpacking. All the drilling and installed plastic fittings were within good tolerances. Only one out of twenty of the plastic glued in place screw plugs which hold the little metal bars that the cam fittings lock in place "spun loose" when I over torqued the bar a hair, but it didn't pull out of the shelf, so I was able to use it without re-gluing. Every part was described in the set up instructions and they were pretty easy to follow. My only complaint is that one of the small baskets seems to have a darker stain job than the rest, possibly because the woven material on the front of the darker basket was denser than the materials in the other baskets, or more likely, because it got spray painted a little longer than the other baskets did. The shelf unit back comes in two pieces which you have to join using a little plastic track. I found that part of the assembly a little "tacky" and was glad that the baskets hide the ridge made by the plastic strip which holds the two back parts together. The back is made that way so that everything can be packed and shipped in a single relatively compact box with little wasted space in it.We purchased the unit so that we could put a small TV on top of it and have some extra storage for guests to use, and it fits the bill nicely. I would not plan to put anything really heavy in the baskets or the shelves might get scratched or warp. It seems strong enough to hold the 35lb 30" wide 4" thick old TFT screen TV we recently retired from our master bedroom in favor of a larger set, and it puts it at about the right height for a guest to watch lying in bed or sitting up against the backboard. It gets along well with our 1920's blanket chest and an older inexpensive two drawer storage unit that used to have a marble top that my wife keeps for sentimental reasons, it belonged to her grandmother, and it gets used to store blankets and stuff we rarely use. If we had invested in newer furniture or had valuable antiques in that room I would have ordered something a little fancier.In my attached video, you get a better impression of the size of this unit than you will from the stock picture and dimensions. It isn't that big!

I was suspicious when I received the packaging that had an overly indescribable obnoxious odor. But unknowing I thought the shelf would be fine once its out of the box. Needless to say, that is not the case, and I have this odor throughout the room and have not been able to get rid of it. I finally got it to calm down a bit by spraying some air freshener on a paper towel and wiping down the shelf but I can still smell it.

My granddaughter picked this out for a birthday present. I agreed after reading the reviews that this would work. This unit came in with two right sides and no left side. We had to call and have a new book shelf sent which was a very easy process. The smell is awful. It is a petroleum or polyurethane smell. I am not sure if it is the boxing or the unit. As soon as you enter house you can smell it. I am hoping that it goes away like other reviews say. My husband put it together while I was not home. When I got home I was very disappointed because the back board behind the shelves looks like someone stepped on it. It looks like a shoe print but my husband says it is the grain. I cannot get it off. I have attached a picture of one of the spots. If you put the magnifying zoom on the wood behind shelves on the amazon picture, it looks like beautiful wood grain. I would return it again, but my husband would not want to put together another one. I wish I had kept the other unit until this one was put together so that we could change it out. This ruins the piece for me. I know it won't hopefully be seen after books are in but being a gift, it is very disappointing. The style of it is just as it looks so it is modern looking. I am disappointed with the quality of this bookcase. I prefer wood items rather than particle board. I am hoping this supports the weight of books as stated from other reviewers. There is a very large height space on each shelf if you have something large. It is also a dust magnet. I agree it feels like it is worth $50. I have not been able to attach the screw covers. I don't understand how this has 4 1/2 stars when 20 of the 54 comments are 4 stars or less!

I will start by saying, take note of the dimensions provided - the picture makes it look much larger than it is. It's really quite small. I knew the dimensions before ordering and still I felt it looked small.The shelf itself is nice and I quite like it. While assembling, I had some doubts...it seemed very flimsy and wobbly and I was concerned...but once I managed to get all the final pieces and screws in, it became much sturdier. Sliding in the back panel, which they have inconveniently provided as 2 individual pieces with a cheap plastic joiner in the middle was a little tricky to accomplish - the shelves end up blocking the grooves they have to slide down, so you almost have to pry it around them...took some time, but once it's done it's all good. Not adding the back panels is not an option, otherwise the thing is SO unstable, even with all the shelves in.Now...the baskets... Absolute garbage. They LOOK really nice...and that's where it ends. When they come out of the plastic, it's all you can do not to toss your cookies all over them. They REEK, they smell like the urine soaked wood shavings in the bottom of a rats cage that hasn't been cleaned EVER. I had to get them the hell out of my house for the stench was killing us all. I will be returning that portion and expect a refund for the difference between baskets and no baskets. Do yourself a favour - get the NO BASKETS version, and just buy your own! Heed my warning, you will regret not listening... I didn't listen to the other reviewer - and boy do I regret it! Caveat Emptor!

Does the job when you're looking to get organized. Looks good and was easy to put together

Very poor quality, fit and finish. Very flimsy and unstable. The product smells very bad. The last thing you would expect when you buy a bookshelf is for it to smell so bad. You have to wonder if this is a health hazard and how they managed to make it smell so bad.

I'm delighted with this purchase. It's the perfect shelf for my school binders and text books. It was easy to assemble and a great fit for the area I have placed it in. The quality is exceptional for the price, it's a classy looking piece of furniture. I have no issues with the smell of it as a read in a previous review. Mine has no odor. I was skeptical purchasing furniture through Amazon but Amazon proves to stand behind their customer service and products. I'm VERY happy and you will be too if you buy it :)

Has a weird smell that hopefully will dispel in a few days. Finishing is quite good, better than Ikea even. Looks sturdy and simple to build. Overall quite satisfied
