A Very efficient hoe.
Just started using this Digging Hoe on my allotment. It is really great, and makes light work of compacted soil. So much better than a spade. A little on the heavy side, but because of this the blade does a great job.

Good digging hoe
Don't know why it's so hard to find a proper digging hoe in the UK, there were none in any of the garden centres or hardware stores I visited, and so decided to give this one a go. The handle is nice and long, and the head is well made with a nice edge for slicing through buried roots. The hoe is well-balanced, sturdy but not too heavy. It has enough weight for the purpose, I would not like to have a tool of this dimension that is too light and makes me put more back in than necessary. The tool's weight in itself helps to dig, especially with larger areas of dryer/heavier soil. The tool arrived assembled, but I took the handle out to oil it in properly before use - this way it lasts longer and is more convenient to work with. Work in a generous amount of linseed oil in the wood and the work it gently, but thoroughly over with medium-to-fine sand paper. Do this 3-4 times and leave the wood overnight before re-assembling and use. The wood fibres swell with the oil and the sanding seals the surface and leaves it silky smooth after the oil has penetrated properly. Well, if you're less OCD about your tools, you can just use it as it is. The diameter of the handle's bottom end is larger, so no risk of the blade falling out. This was my concern, but now that I've used it I'm happy with the design and the quality. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the head should be heavier, which would give each swing more force.

Good tool.
This is great on my allotment. I just hammered a few nails down the side of the neck to keep it from slipping.

Excellent tool. Great price.
An excellent tool to turn over large areas. Good length handle. Easy to fit. Blade not the best quality but adequate and great value considering the low price. Much easier than using a spade due to my dodgy knee!! Fine for me but my partner found it rather heavy. Recommended.

great for your back
I got this after seeing a few videos online of people using digging hoes, I'm tall (6'5), so a spade causes a lot of pain to my back quite quickly, this really reduced the pain I get, I can dig over a few metres square are quite quickly before feeling the ware on my back, if this had a longer handle I believe the pain would be eliminated entirely for an hour's digging. as for the method of digging, since it chops the ground at an angle it makes it easier when turning soil or breaking it up, vs a spade, before id use a fork to break up the soil then use a spade to turn it, I have quite stone soil with a good amount of clay mixed in and this worked well with it. My only complaint is the handle was rough to touch so I had to sand it down a bit after it blistered ny hands up, I'd suggest you do the same and maybe wear gloves, I normally would but mine where lost at the time I wanted to use this, I also sharpened the blade but this is something you usually do when buying a new spade too so I wont hold that against it as it's also held an edge very well, as it doesn't have to be razor sharp, just having a cutting edge for the soil.
