Wow, lesson learned!
I should have just bought this originally and put in the effort to learn how to hard wire an amplified subwoofer to the bass port. Definitely learned a good lesson and will not make this mistake again! This Bose TV speaker replaced a Sony HT-S400 2.1 system ($299) that I got on sale at $100 off. I took the deal and regretted it ever since because the Sony continually cut out at random intervals and sounded a little muddled - another story for another time. The Bose TV Speaker name just sounds so plain, no numbers, and no gimmicks, BUT the sound clarity, range, and quality is so far beyond the Sony that there is no comparison. I was able to increase the base a little on the Bose and although not thumping, adds a good amount more of low range. And the dialog is so clear with the extra center speaker that until you hear it you would not know what you were missing. What I did discover in researching this unit is you can actually add an amplified subwoofer using the miniature stereo headphone jack labeled bass on the back of the Bose. And you don't need to stay with the expensive Bose brand! So I ordered a 3.5 stereo to split left/right RCA cable at 16 feet for around $15 and a Klipsch amplified 10 inch subwoofer for $189 with RCA connections on the back. These are on the way now, and when added, will result in a 3.1 system with high end left/center/right sound coming from the Bose TV Speaker and a ridiculous amount of base from the Klipsch subwoofer for a total of $468. A little more than originally planned dollar wise and I will have to read up on how to configure the subwoofer to ensure proper connectivity, but in the end this is better than a bundled system sold by the tv brands at a similar price point for sure. Even without planning the addition of a subwoofer, I am more than happy using just the Bose TV Speaker by itself over the old sound bar with a subwoofer, which is actually $20 more today on Amazon. If I remember in the next week or two, I will try to update my review after adding the subwoofer to confirm successful installation.

The Clarity of the words that are spoken.
Superb! The words come through so clear. It is more relaxing watching movies with the Bose Sound Bar. The background noise doesn't seem to interfere as much. Even music sounds better. Very compatible for people like my husband and I who have to wear hearing aids. We are in our 90's and it was easy for us to set up the Bose Sound Bar and reasonable priced and fast delivery. We are very satisfied and would recommend it to others. BL

Exactly What I Was Looking For
Purchased this product as a gift for someone but I made sure to test it before giving it to them since there were some key features I needed. Firstly, this soundbar is not as long as other soundbars on the market which is exactly what I was looking for. I needed it to fit under a PC monitor - and it fits perfectly. Secondly, I needed it to have a 3.5mm jack. In theory, you can use optical, but I wanted to have the option to use the 3.5mm jack since its the easiest way to get speakers to work on your computer. I looked at TONS of sound bars, and it seems like the 3.5mm jacks have gone extinct or something. But not on this sound bar. This one had a 3.5mm jack which was perfect and it made connecting to my PC super easy. Next, I needed it to be loud. At first when I plugged it in, it was quiet, even with my computer volume on 100%. But when I turned up the sound on the actual sound bar using the remote - it was plenty loud. This soundbar does NOT have physical buttons to alter the volume, so you need the remote (included). I don't think that's a bad thing though. Next, I did not want it to have any voice control or built in Alexa or whatever else. It was never going to get used and I didn't want to pay the extra money for that feature. Pros: - Quality of sound - Loudness - Looks great - Short enough to fit on a desk for PC set up - No voice control/Alexa - Reasonably priced - Variety of connection (HDMI Arc, Optical, Aux In, Additional Bass) - Bluetooth connectivity (don't need it, but good to have) Cons: - Doesn't have voice control (not a con for me, but could be for someone else) Conclusion: This was the only soundbar I managed to find that fit everything I needed. If you resonate with my reasoning for why I chose a soundbar like this, I would say its a no-brainer.

Good, but not great....This is a TV SPEAKER! Not a SOUNDBAR
The sound bar was nicely packed and had all of the wires I needed for a fast and easy installation. The equipment setup was super easy with only the power and optical cords to plug in. I was replacing a Samsung sound bar and the hookups were exactly the same. I replaced my old soundbar with the Bose because my old remote stopped working and I was hoping for a greatly improved quality of sound. Didn't get it. Please note that this item is not a SOUNDBAR, it is a TV speaker (I failed to note this when I ordered it on Amazon) With the legendary sound quality of Bose I expected much more. While the quality of sound is far better than the TV speakers, the bass is inadequate. The instructions claim that I can adjust it, but following the simple instructions I detected no difference in either the + or - direction. Very disappointed with that. The sound is slightly tinny without the full theater sound I'd expected. This speaker is NOT cheap by any means, which I expected from Bose - you get what you pay for. But if I had to do it over again I'd opt for a cheaper Samsung Soundbar with the full base capability. Yes, I could return it, but I'm just not that unhappy with the produce and I feel the Bose will last as long as I do.

Small footprint, big sound
Easy to connect and install...well, my son-in-law had no issues. Great speaker quality immediately. This was definitely an upgrade from the brand we had before. It also has a smaller footprint making it more aesthetically pleasing. so far I'm pleased. It was a Christmas gift for my husband, so we haven't really used it much. It's only been used to hear the sound of a fireplace on YouTube. I believe it's money well spent and since it was on sale, a good value for the money.

I bought this sound bar from Amazon, but after receiving it, I got some concerns about the product and warranty. Apart from an Amazon shipping label to my name, it also had another shipping label saying: “Shipped from Bose replacements and returns” to Amazon What? Is it a refurbished unit? Do I have a warranty on it? A call to Bose Canada confirmed that the unit is new and it has a one year warranty starting from the date of purchase. Amazon is a reseller for Bose. If that wasn’t the case, I would have returned it and bought the same model from Bose Canada (Same price and free shipping). They also have refurbished ones with a full year warranty for $50 less. I am very happy with the unit. I like the function “Dialog mode” as it greatly improve the clarity of dialogue and vocals in movies. There is plenty of Bass for watching a movie or a concert. There is a port to connect an extra subwoofer but IT HAS TO BE A BOSE UNIT and they are very expensive. Few comments: I wanted to place the sound bar on the back of my TV, but, as the remote uses infrared(IR) to communicate with the bar, it has to be in line of sight. I plugged it to an HDMI(ARC) TV output and the great thing is that the sound bar automatically turns ON when I start the TV and shuts down when I turn the TV OFF (The sound bar is monitoring the signal from its HDMI input). Using the TV’s HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) port allows you to use your TV remote to control the power, volume, and mute functions of the sound bar. If using Bluetooth, my TV (LG) remote controls the output volume of the sound bar. I see people complaining about the lack of volume control from the TV remote when using the optical cable. This has nothing to do with Bose: The optical signal of a TV cannot control the volume on any device. It only send sound signal.

I was honestly surprised by the sound quality. The bass sounds amazing, and setup was very easy. It’s perfect for a medium-size room and really makes movies and series much more enjoyable.
