Rico C7 Graftonite Mouthpiece for Tenor Sax

Got this for an upgrade on alto sax and it didn't fit. I wasn't going to go through the hassle of returning it and ordering something else so I carefully increased bore by 1.5 mm and now it fits. Wasn't expecting to have to do that but it's on now and sounds well iwith Rico 2.5 reed attached.. I bought a Rico cap and ligature to accompany it and the ligature is not a great fit either. Maybe quality control was off on holiday that day!!!!

I already have an A5 and its worth at least three times the price.i use it for practice and studio work (lovely dark rich tone.similair to a Link Tonedge but nicer imo). I wanted the A7 for a tad more resistance and volume for live gigs. Works a treat. Great mouthpiece if youre after the 'cool jazz' sound. If youre after a more hard edged ,cutting sound its not for you. Try the Graftonite instead.

A very good alternative for those that either cannot afford the Yamaha version or cannot get one (for some reason Amazon nor the marketplace are selling the Yamaha tenor sax mouthpiece). It's miles better that the one that came with the outfit, though if you are a beginner like me you would be advised to go on the Internet and find out the difference between A, B & C and also 1 to 7, as they are all different sizes, some are easy for beginners and some hard to play, and all produce different sounds. I picked a B3 because it is an average between them all.I would also recommend a  synthetic reed ; a tad expensive but it lasts for ages, can be left on the mouthpiece and never needs wetting.

A really great mouthpiece at an affordable price. Plays easily in all octaves from low Bb to high F#. I use with a java green 2.5 reed.I have much more expensive mouthpieces and this one is just as good.I would recommend for all beginners to advanced players.

Rico Graftonite mouthpieces are quite well regarded, despite being really cheap (do some googling), and I've found them to be very good. I have soprano and alto Graftonites, and I like the wider opening ones better.The A7 has quite a wide opening, but that makes it more interesting to play, and I find I can get the low notes more easily than with a narrower opening. It plays well with a Fibracell 2 or 2.5 reed. The 2.5 reed reaches the palm key notes more easily than the 2. A wide opening needs a fairly soft reed, so you probably wouldn't want more than about a number 3 reed.The other ones to consider are the Rico Metallites, which are also supposed to be good. I haven't tried those because they're supposed to be quite loud, and I need to be able to practice fairly quietly. I've found I can play surprisingly softly with the A7 Graftonite, but plenty loud enough when I want to.My other main alto mouthpiece is a Yamaha 4CM, which is a lot more expensive. I prefer this one. The 4CM has a much narrower opening, which arguably makes it easier to play in tune, and can take a harder reed, but it's harder to play low, and much harder to bend notes or do scoops with.

B5 medium chamber, medium tip size,with a 2 reed, allows for playing upper to lower register notes with ease and able to produce vibrato and bend notes. Altissimo notes are more difficult and will need a harder reed.

Questa valutazione si basa su un neofita che sta ancora frequentando la scuola, la mia padronanza dello strumento è ancora acerba e devo ancora migliorare il suono (a volte stono).Ho acquistato questo bocchino in sostituzione di un plasticaccio da 5€ (incluso nella confezione del sax) ed ho fatto un ottimo affare. La qualita del suono e del timbro sono migliorati, idem il controllo sull'ancia, l'apertura è sufficiente per eseguire gli esercizi ed i brani semplici.CONTRO: l'imbocco del pezzo è "tagliente" ed ha rovinato il sughero del chiver al primo inserimento... ho dovuto ovviare con una lima.Conclusioni:Ottimo per i neofiti che hanno bisogno di un bocchino nuovo spendendo il giusto.

When I played more seriously than I play now I was lucky enough to inherit a tenor with a Eugene Rousseau and autolink mouthpiece that set the bar incredibly high for me. Fast forward to a decade later with a new saxophone, and I found myself wanting for more than the "custom" Yamaha mouthpiece and Tom Lee mouthpiece that came with my new-to-me tenor.This piece (I got the B5) is a surprising middle of the road mouthpiece between the two professional pieces I had before. I get beautiful tone, and the ability to project the sound quite well with minimal effort. There is no way that I could have been more pleased with the price of this mouthpiece and the sheer quality of its make. The embouchure is just right and it covers my big band needs and blends with my concert band music too.10/10 would buy again.

Ich habe sowohl das Graftonite C3 als auch das B5.Für den Zweck, für den diese Mundstücke entwickelt wurden, sind sie im Hinblick auf den Preis absolut super:Ein Low-Budget-Mundstück, das (vor allem auch Anfängern) einen relativ guten Sound bei relativ guter Spielbarkeit ermöglicht.Man merkt selbstverständlich einen Unterschied zu Mundstücken, die es ab 100€ aufwärts gibt - die Graftonites sind aber keinesfalls billiger Ramsch und die knapp 30€ sind echt ein Witz für das, was man hier bekommt.Weiter unten gehe ich auf Sound und Spielbarkeit detailierter und auch kritischer ein.Da vor allem Unerfahrene (wie ich damals) bei 9 Modellen aber wahrscheinlich überfordert herumrätseln, welches überhaupt das "Richtige" wäre, hier erstmal eine (stark vereinfachte) ...__________________________________________... ENTSCHEIDUNGSHILFE- Der Buchstabe A/B/C gibt an, wie groß die Kammer des Mundstücks ist. Diese beeinflusst vor allem den Soundcharakter:A = große Kammer: weicher, dunkler Sound -> "Konzertmodell"B = mittel: moderater (meiner Meinung nach aber immer noch eher dunkler) Sound -> "Jazzmodell"C = klein: brillianter, zentrierter Sound -> "Rockmodell" (oder auch für Funk)- Die Zahl 3/5/7 gibt an, die groß die Bahnöffnung (bzw "Tip Opening") ist. Das beeinflusst die Spielbarkeit:3 = eng = leicht spielbar, nicht so viel Kraft in den Lippen benötigt, dafür tendenziell eher härtere Blätter nötig. (Meiner Meinung nach super für Anfänger bzw das erste "Upgrade" vom Schüler-MPC)5 = mittel = etwas schwerer zu intonieren da mehr Spielraum (dafür besser modulierbar), mehr Lippenspannung nötig. Außerdem ist die Bahnlänge etwas länger (weniger Luftwiderstand, also mehr Luft nötig)7 = weit = schwer zu intonieren, viel Lippenspannung & Luft und tendenziell weichere Blätter nötigIch fand das C3 mit den meisten 2.0 - 2.5 Reeds (sehr grober Richtwert, jeder Hersteller kocht da sein eigenes Süppchen) als Anfänger mit wenig Kraft in den Lippen sehr gut spielbar. Wenn die Blätter aber zu weich sind und/oder "gebissen" wird, verschließt dieses Mundstück gerne mal und der Ton "würgt ab".Das ist jetzt alles sehr allgemein und vereinfacht, aber genau diese Info hätte ich mir damals gewünscht, als ich hier auf Amazon auf der Suche nach einem Anfänger-Mundstück war.___________________________________________Nun aber zu Sound, Spielbarkeit und Verarbeitung.SOUNDMein erstes Mundstück (Yamaha 4C) war mir irgendwann zu dumpf, daher habe ich mir die Graftonites bestellt.Das B5 war mir persönlich etwas zu dunkel, da ich hauptsächlich rockige Sachen spiele.Das C3 hingegen fand ich super, insbesondere mit einem Légère Signature 2.0 und Harry Hartmann's Fiberreed Carbon Onyx MS Synth-Blatt. Laut genug, durchsetzungsfähig / präsent im Mix, klar.Verglichen mit höherwertigen (aber auch um ein Vielfaches teureren) Mundstücken, klingen beide Graftonites (für meine trainierten Ohren) aber insgesamt sehr neutral bzw nüchtern / "nach nix besonderem".Unerfahrene werden hier aber sicher begeistert sein, was für ein Sound aus einem so günstigen MPC kommen kann.SPIELBARKEITDer Umstieg vom Yamaha 4C auf das Graftonite C3 war schon eine ziemliche Umstellung. Die Graftonites sind viel breiter, die "Rillen" auf der Unterseite neben dem Table für mich unangenehm & ungewohnt und meine ersten Töne haben fast nur gequietscht.Ich konnte mich aber doch relativ schnell darauf einstellen und fand es vom Widerstand her viel "freier" zu blasen. Also wirklich ein Unterschied wie Tag und Nacht (zum Positiven). Beim B5 war es mir durch die größere Bahnöffnung und -länge ZU "frei", wodurch der Sound schwach und hauchig wurde.Generell ist die Ansprache im normalen Tonumfang als auch im Altissimo voll okay und hängt viel mehr vom Blatt ab - auch wenn das C3 mehr zum Beißen verleitet als beispielsweise mein jetziges V5 T35, was nochmal um einiges leichter anspricht.VERARBEITUNGDie Bohrung zum Aufstecken ist minimal größer als bei anderen Mundstücken, die ich getestet habe. Das Material ist halt billiges Plastik, das beim Herunterfallen auch mal eine Delle bekommen kann. Im Hinblick auf den Preis aber insgesamt angemessen gut verarbeitet.

Arrivato subito a prezzo molto basso. Funziona su tutti i registri.Mi serviva un bocchino per studio con piccola apertura da usare con ance sintetiche un po dure che non avesse un suono troppo forte per non disturbare i vicini. L'appoggio dell'ancia è un poco largo e il gradino sotto di essa tipico di alcuni bocchini Rico, non mi piace.Per un concerto non userei ne questo bocchino ne ance sintetiche. Comunque un'ottimo acquisto!

Like:Love the tone, emphasized 2000 Hz spectrum make it sound clear and cutting. A and B mouthpieces have more 500 and 1000 Hz spectrum ehancement which sounds more honky and not really my tasteDislike:The facing length is too less, thus your bite lies close to the tip - can't take most of the mouthpiece in. But perhaps that makes it easier to blow and produce sound
