U.S. Games Systems, Inc. Wizard Medieval Edition

I will start off by saying that I have been an avid Wizard player for years, and have tried all the different varieties. All versions are great and the gameplay is varied and exciting across the board. However, this one is an outlier when it comes to card quality. The cards themselves depict excellent medieval artwork, but the cardstock used is poor at best, feels and shuffles like cardboard playing cards you might find at the Dollar Store. I notice this is the only version made in China, so perhaps that has something to do with it. In either case, it really is a pity, because in every other regard, I enjoy and prefer the flavor of this version the most. Easy 5 stars if they started using identical cardstock like the other versions.

Took this camping with my husband and daughters (ages 24 and 13) and we spent long nights learning the game and then crushing each other. It's interesting how every player picks a strategy (say bidding zero, or bidding high) and then has to temper what their natural inclination is until they get "in the zone" where they know in general how many bids they'll win or lose depending on how many cards others hold and what the chances are that--say--a jack might win a hand even if you didn't want it to.Big fun.The cards themselves are sturdy and cool, and though we've since played "Oh Heck" with two decks of regular cards using the same general rules, it's not as much fun as with this medieval deck, which fits with the Wizard theme better.This did take awhile to get to me, as it was out of stock (maybe 4 weeks?) but the price was reasonable for a high-end deck of cards and they arrived in perfect condition and quickly (once shipped).

This is one of my favorite games. It is easy to learn, but takes practice to master. It is well worth the money and time invested.

I am very happy that I decided to purchase this set of Wizard cards, even though I already have the original game.These cards are absolutely beautiful!The packaging is very sturdy cardboard, almost too sturdy… I thought I might have had to do a, “Hulk SMASH!,” to get the box open.😂 But, I didn’t, and just kept at it, et voilà! I wish all card games would be available in such a great box, or a tin, and not the regular (I’m being tactful here😊) cardboard boxes in which they are received.Great job on these, guys!
