What I should have bought in the first place
This hub appears to be what I should have bought in the first place. I am something of a bargain hunter/cheapskate, and so I first took the Amazon Basics hub; my review of it appears elsewhere, and I was not kindly. I threw it out and then bought the Anker 4 port unpowered hub which is designed to look good with an iMac. I was influenced by a favorable review, but became troubled when I read the setup guide which came with the Anker. Sure enough, it was not beefy enough to meet my needs, and it's now in the attic. I chose this product over the larger, powered Anker because of my past experience with Tripp Lite products, and perhaps because of my disappointment with the small Anker. I write this upon opening and testing the Tripp Lite while plugged into my new "silo style" Mac Pro. I ran my USB 2 Logitech apeakers, an SSD external drive (3.0) and a Lexar 3.0 card reader simultaneously. NO problems; complete success; great joy. It is doing everything advertised, handling two serious loads on the 3.0 band while not being sabotaged by a 2.0 device. Until I have a crash or other problem, this 5 star rating will stand. Quality build. High, but fair, price. I could now own two of them for about what I have shelled out so far for this and two bricks.

Works great
I don't have any USB 3 devices yet, but this hub works great with USB 2. The power cord could be longer and I would have preferred for all the ports to be on the back. Seems to be a winner.Update: I had purchased two of these about 3 years ago and both failed this week, Jan. 22, 2014, at the same time. I had them both plugged into a Tripplite ISOBAR6. Not sure what caused the failure yet, but it does seem strange that they failed at the same time. No other equipment failures. Not sure what the expected lifespan of a USB hub should be. My updated experience is that they performed well, but seemed slightly short lived, maybe a little pricey, but a better experience than some other USB hubs I've tried. (The Moshi iLynx, purchased in 2009, is still running great, but more than one of them wouldn't be practical)One thing I do need to note is that current product photo, with the wavy black not is not the same as the curved white top model I purchased.

Chipset works well, good power
This chipset is solid, and can power a demanding device such as a high end tablet or smartphone through the 2A port. The only downside I encountered is that the power switch is flaky: if you have it switched all the way into the "on" position, the hub turns off; so the switch has to be somewhat in the middle to provide power to the device.

Not working after a couple of month - updated review!
Unfortunately this USB 3.0 hub broke down for no reason after a few month of use. Light goes on when a USB stick is connected but nothing gets recognized (Windows 7) anymore. Cannot recommend thus HUB.Update 9/10/2013After contacting Tripp Lite tech Support they have sent me a replacement U360-004-R which arrived yesterday. This new unit works as expected with USB 3.0 speeds of about 170 Mbps when copying a large file off my Lexar thumb drive. The replacement unit I received is black and looks very well made and has an on/off switch in the back and uses the same type B connector like the previous unit.Thank you to the Tripp Lite Tech support for helping me with this problem.

Second time's a charm!
Updated April 25, 2014The replacement unit is working great. I have an external DVD drive, USB drive, thumb drive, memory card reader, and keyboard plugged into it.Updated April 17, 2014Customer support was great. I spent a few minutes on the phone with them and they decided to send me a new unit. Upgrading my rating for now. Will re-visit after I've tried the new unit.Original review:I got this for my brand new late 2013 Mac Pro. It worked well for about a week. Now it stops working a few minutes after I turn on the power to my Mac Pro. USB drives, keyboard, etc., plugged into it no longer communicate with my computer. My work-around is to unplug things from the hub and plug them directly into the Mac Pro. Looking into the return policy now.

Works well after updating adapter card
Plugged the hub into my desktop computer USB3 adapter card.Plugged in a Lexar professional USB 3 card reader into the hub. Didn't work, in fact after a few seconds my computer blue screened.Tried the hub in my laptop USB3 port. Hub worked great. Okay, something wrong with the USB3 adapter card. After much research discovered that most, maybe all, USB3 adapter cards use the Renesas/NEC chips. Went to a French website and downloaded the current driver for the adapter card. Still got the blue screen. Went back to the French website and downloaded the current firmware. After much hassle - these things never go smoothly - finally got the firmware to install.Success! The Tripp-Lite hub now works great.
