This book was obviously written as can service to end out the series. It lacks the real plot and drive of her other books. Instead we are left with a sappy and predictable love story between the Queen and Sit Gideon. It comes across as sweet at times and sophomoric at others. She obviously has PTSD so don't expect anything really super steamy to happen. The supposed mystery/problem that is supposed to be getting solved however is so barely sketched out it is ridiculous. I figured it out in the first few minutes. It is a cute story that ends out a long series. Is it necessary to read it? No. But you can, just don't expect this authors usual quality of writing. Because, it isn't there.

Not the best in series
Solid 3 stars. The bar is quite high for any sequel in this series but this one lacked the usual MacMasyer charm and depth. Couldn't connect with Alexandra and engage in story completely. Although, the part with baby angels brought me to my knees and I almost rated the book with 5 stars. However, that wouldn't be fair to other readers who (hopefully) had no such heart wrenching experience. So, I stand by my first impression. Solid book but not the one I would come back to and read again as I mostly do with every book written by this author.

Excellent
My only complaint is that it felt too short!! I loved watching these characters grow and change and be delightfully ornery stubborn and chaotic. I really enjoyed seeing the Queen and Gideon finally getting their happily ever after. And I'm exceptionally glad to see this story talking about lost little ones. It's a topic most books gloss over or ignore... Thank you. For all the ones we didn't get to meet here. Oh. And yes, this was definitely an adult content story.

Loved the entire series
This was a nice little epilogue book to wrap the series up.

The HEA to end all HEAs ;-)
While not the strongest book in the series, it's a beautiful ending, dealing as only Bec McMaster can with issues like PTSD, addiction, and miscarriage in the frame of steampunk romance. Kudos to the author who doesn't shy away from how her characters are affected by the things they have had to deal with, and been subjected to.Bonus points for making Malloryn apologize on his knees ;-).I would not consider this a standalone. It might be read as that but really, missing out on the series would be a pity!Readers who enjoy Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, and Seanan McGuire will happily add the London steampunk series to their favourite reading list :-)
