Jack Sparrow Costume Hat for Adults

Nice quality, firm and not floppy.

The tricorn hat is sturdy and well made with a thicker felt than I have usually seen. The brim is shapable, it has a hat band, and it will certainly fit a larger adult head, more though than most other hats of it's type. It certainly makes a great looking pirate and period piece hat great for parties, fairs with pirates, Halloween, or any other special occasions. I give this hat high marks for the quality and being such a bargain.

Good quality hat that is easily shaped by hand to the shape desired. The Velcro band inside allows it to fit basically any human head. The hat is good and durable, but the part most likely to ware down is the Velcro strap, which will probably start to detach from the inside of the hat. No problem because it can be re-glued with any appropriate cloth glue. The X shaped cross stitches are just for cosmetic appearances and do not tie into the head bowl of the hat. I have two tricorns from this vendor and both arrive with the back part folded up funny, but as mentioned, you can easily form it as you prefer. I recommend this hat just so long as you remember the Velcro band will need repair later if you wear this hat daily.

Well it is indeed a large Tricorne (Pirate) hat. If you want a pirate hat... this'll do it. In more detail: Its a faded tan-brown. Its not really a leather texture and color but its certainly a faux leather quiet of fabric. It looks like a costume piece rather then a period piece. The edge of the hat corners extend out from the central cavity around 5 or 6 inches. The sides puff out a bit and extends fairly high at close to 6-7 inches from base to the highest vertical point. The hat can be adjusted bent. A thin metal wire holds it in shape. The overall appears makes it look quiet large and eye-catching (Because pirates are nothing if not showy). The strings on the sides are purely decorative and tied on the back side of each flap. The hat fits a bit itght on me, but I have a large head so that's to be expected. If you're looking to make a pirate costume and you need a hat, either stock or one fit for customizing, this will fit quiet nicely. if you're going to a historic reenactment, you should look for an actual leather hat to modify. Also, be aware that wearing this will give you the urge to randomly go 'ARRR'. I suggest you follow that instinct.

I was very impressed with the quality of this hat. No, mine isn't brown- but it used to be!!! I used black leather dye with a little swatch of cloth from my ship's sails -I mean, an old bedsheet- to use. I tested a small area on the inside and left it it to sit a few days. I have even tested a second coat, successfully. It was very easy and spread about right. The x's are purely decorative but allow feathers to be poked through; it is only glued on the outside/top of the hat. The hat stays in shape very well, and with my bandana, it will fit better. Even though it is a little big on me, it stays on pretty well. Quite the treasure!!! (Excuse the construction- I have it sitting atop a cannon-in-progress for halloween!)

This hat is sturdy and looks just like the picture! It is used on cruises when we sail the Caribbean! My husband's head is large and it fits without wiggle.

Good quality. Had to stretch it to make it fit over the Jack Sparrow wig that I also wear. I wear size 7 3/8 hat and increased it by 1 1/2 inches. ( from a 'large' hat size to about a XX Large hat size) See photos I posted. Instructions follow. Get a large, somewhat tapered glass bowl and turn it upside down. Measure your head by wrapping a piece of string around it. Increase this length to the size you want the hat to be. Tape the ends together and put over the bowl. This marks how far you'll push the hat down when sizing it. Set a heat gun set to 800 degrees. Heat the around the head opening until it reaches about 200 degrees--check with an infrared thermometer while heating. Do not let the hat get over 400 degrees or it will melt. It's 100% polyester, a type of plastic.. When 200 degrees is reached, quickly push it down on a glass bowl, spreading out the head opening until you reach the piece of string you put on the bowl. I pushed it down a little farther just to make sure. Hold the hat on the bowl until it cools down, about two minutes. Once it is cooled it will hold the new shape.

This hat was well worth the money! I love that you can shape it how you want. Better quality than I thought it wpuld be. My son, a student at Penn State University, dresses as Jack Sparrow for Thon to raise money to cover expenses for families that have a child with pediatric cancer. The kids loved him so much last year the one day he did it, that we took his costume up quite a few notches as Penn State invited him to dress up as Jack Sparrow all 3 days!! 46 hours of no sitting/no sleeping!! The hat really helped bring the costume together!! Thank you

Fits me very well, well made for the price. Expect it should last many years with occasional costume and pastafarian use; modern Canada doesn't seem to include tricorns in contemporary male fashion ;)
