A solid subwoofer
As other reviewers have stressed, it is important to spend the time and attention adjusting the low pass filter (the frequency response level [crossover point] at which the subwoofer cuts in with the 16' sounds) and the volume. As generally directed, it is sensible to set the bass on your amplifier to a neutral (0) level, i.e. no + or - adjustment to bass, as a starting point for calibrating the subwoofer, so that it works properly with the full available range. The cables supplied might work with other people's installed system/amp., but in my case I had to buy a separate 1 RCA male to 2 RCA male cable to make it work properly. The 3.5 mm [vs. an RCA] to 2 RCA male cable supplied was not usable in my case as there is no suitable 3.5 mm socket on my amp., which does, on the other hand, have a dedicated subwoofer OUT socket, to which my new cable is correctly connected, and working well. The other (2 RCA to 2 RCA) cable supplied with the unit generated feedback and distortion, although it sort of worked on some types music, but definitely not on others - and I was almost thinking of returning the unit altogether, if the replacement cable I obtained had not worked, but it does, and perfectly so. Phase control is set at 0 ('normal'), unless you have a long cable and the subwoofer produces sound other than from the same plane as your main speakers. Now that it has the right cable, and despite having been initially a little concerned about it with the 2 x 2 RCA plug cable, the system is working very well, and the gradual, proportionate response is very controllable, with a natural take-over of the lower bass registers from the main speakers, and the speaker and system as a whole is entirely free of background hum or noise. People who do not like music as much as I do have also commented that the effect is quite subtle, and can also be impressively powerful. There are of course very detailed (11+ point...) subwoofer set-up instructions available online, but so long as one starts with everything set as above, and on low/zero levels and works up, a very good set of levels can be arrived at. I recommend also using feel - i.e. the levels at which your hand feels the subwoofer starts to vibrate - it is (pleasingly) a very fine tuning to set this point, and then just above that, for the required 16' bass effect. As an analogy, anyone who plays an orchestral double bass, when doubling the cellos will know that it is a very subtle volume and level of precision that "tracks" the bass line an octave below, which is the most rewarding sound (the feeling of 'latent power') - simply enabling the octave to resonate almost with a life of its own, even at the softest levels, and which is a very wonderful thing. It is also very possible to achieve a good level of (non-boomy) precision in the bass notes with this unit, as well as the different sound textures (i.e. the difference between a baroque string bass, tuba/bass trombone, synth bass, and bass guitar, for example.) One can of course turn up the bass volume on the subwoofer for specific pieces of music, as required....! The music on which I want to hear more bass, is basically everything, ranging from rock and prog, to classical, big orchestral sounds, organ music, and electronic music. And so far, I am pleased to say that this subwoofer can handle all of it. It is also important of course to test and adjust your system using a selection of music that actually does have a range and variety of proper recorded 16' sounds, and to start from very low volume and pass filter settings, and work up to the level that sounds right for you. (Generally: "less is definitely more"...!) I have the volume on 1/4 of the max., and the pass filter (crossover) is set 1/2 way between 30 Hz and the max 160 Hz on the control knob dial (although the spec. suggests the range is 38-200 Hz.) but these settings adjustments will of course vary for everyone's different equipment, set-up, and personal tastes. The sleep mode mentioned by some is not an issue for me as I would simply switch the subwoofer off when not in use... In any case the sleep mode seems to work/wake up completely correctly. There is a sense of having a 'powerful, slumbering beast' that always has comfortably much more capacity in reserve than is being used, and could cope very easily with any levels of bass sounds one might wish to throw at it, and more.... if required. In general, I would recommend the acquisition of a subwoofer, as a very cost-effective way of getting more out of an existing sound system, without massive, expensive upgrades of amplifier and speakers. The unit actually measures approx. 25 cm (width) x 35.5 cm (depth, including space for the jacks and vol. / pass filter control knobs) x 28.5 cm (height) which is not as stated - I think the dimensions given online are the packaged size. It initially looked a little bigger than I expected when I picked up the box in which it was shipped, but it tucks away in a corner, effectively just about a square foot box, without taking up too much space, and the understated black design is very unobtrusive. RE: auto standby, after a month or so, I also take the point made by other reviewers. I had the unit once switch to standby [the standby timing is set at 20 mins, with no bass signal] with low recorded volume and a passage of music with little/no 16'. I agree, it would have been better to be able to turn that function on/off manually. However, I actually don't mind turning the subwoofer on again to get the 16' back under such (fairly rare) circumstances. It may also be a question of adjusting the crossover point, so that the unit does not miss out on receiving a signal.

Powerful and solved a problem.
*THIS CANNOT BE USED with AMPLIFIER *I bought this because my sony tv is a high spec with great inbuilt atmos speakers. And the bass they give off when playing atmos is already very good for a tv. I WANTED bass to have that punch when a explosion hit though. So I wanted just a bit more bass. I bought a sony ht-g700 and the bass was OK but the tv speakers where better SO I was stuck unless I paid for a whole bose 600 or sonos system £700 pounds area with bass modules. I found a video on utube that showed how I could hook a sub to my tv direct "and it worked". This edifer sub is great very deep bass for by needs and you can feel it and I have had no issue with auto sleep ,its heavy, simple to use But better than the two sony subs I had with soundbar bars. It is worth the money. I'm glad I found that video as I wanted bass but not a soundbar as the kd43x89ju sony had the best tv speakers I have heard. I now have perfect set up for a lot less than £700. Edit update unfortunately 😕 it went faulty and I had to return it ,shame as it seemed well built.

An excellent choice.
I've seen some poor reviews for this sub, so was a bit tentative to purchase it. I have a 120w Wharfdale for my main home AVR setup but wanted to replace an old Logitech 5.1 system for my PC with a simpler setup using Monitor Audio Monitor 50 book shelf speakers through a Aiyima B07 amp but it lacked a full bass tone. I didn't need another 120w sub, so bit the bullet on this 70w T5. I'm happy to say that it's perfectly suited and looks great under my desk. The sound quality once dialled in is great, and over time as the cone relaxes it'll get even better. I'm extremely happy with this, my PC setup sounds awesome. Definitely one to shortlist if you don't need a mega powerful sub, even though you can push this really loud, too loud for me! :)

Edifier T5 subwoofer
Good Value product, looks well built and of good quality. With my Denon Receiver it does struggle a little for output, but for me that's no problem, it's perfect for the size of room it's in. Easily connected, functional unit. The bass is smooth, clear and rounded.

Fantastic low frequencies and connectivity at this price.
This is an excellent subwoofer at a fairly low pricepoint that makes it perfect for low budget audio setups. I use this with my PC, through a Topping D10s DAC, and have Majority D40 speakers coming from it, which makes its low frequency passthrough filter perfect to keep the lower frequencies from going to the speakers and the sounds overlapping. The volume dial helps you set your levels too. The low frequencies it produces are very good. They don't sound overbaring or compensating with boom, the lows are clear and you can still feel them when you crank the volume up. It was a little bigger and heavier than I anticipated but it wasn't a problem for me, but keep that in mind if its for a tight space or shelf. If using with a PC, I would recommend getting a free equaliser to tune your set up with this for best results.

The Edifier T5 powered subwoofer is the most impressive speaker I’ve ever come across.
I have a pair of Edifier R1280DB. They were very good speakers on their own but adding the Edifier T5 powered subwoofer to this sound system has raised my listening experience of my music to a stratospheric level. I’m hearing sounds I never knew existed on my records and this doesn’t change when I use the Bluetooth connection to my phone. I’m beyond happy. I spent my early years working in a high end hi fi shop and the only sound system that has come close to this complete system would cost you thousands of pounds. Once the subwoofer is setup correctly the experience is out of this world. I’m quite overwhelmed by the difference in sound quality.

Qualitativ hochwertiger, schwerer Subwoofer. Ein Stern Abzug wegen de UK Kaltgeräte-Steckers. Sehr gute Preis-Leistung.

I will make a more extended review after a few months of use because i believe you can only truely tell about something after a few months of use but still i had to review this thing even after just having it for not that long because i am so impressed by this thing. All i can say is most of what i heard about this sub is true and that is a compliment.Wow this thing is a beast!First of all this is my first time buying a sub.I had another 140 watts sub that was included in a dvd home theater but this 70 watts one seem to beat it even though its suppose to be half the power.I know some people reading this review will think 'oh so its this guy's first sub bought so it probably doesnt take him a lot to be impress and maybe thats why he would find a cheap 70 watts sub impressive'.I might not be a sub expert but i know good sound and i know when a sub is loud and when it sounds powerfull and when it sounds amazing for its price and power output. And this Sub does.Plus i know when electronics are design with quality components and this sub is that. Now lets get this out of the way right from the start.Snob audiophiles who usually buy 600 dollars or thousand dollar subs are not gonna consider this or will laugh at this sub.Cause thats what they like to do.Plus consider this that type of crowd often dont live where they have to consider not disturbing neibhors with theyre subs wich is why they buy theses monster huge subs that output like 500 watts of power and sounds almost the same as what real cinemas use.But for someone who has neibhors around to consider let me tell you this sub is just perfect and to be honest even at that if not carefull with the knob even this sub can get your neibhors to complain about your sub cause this small 70 watts sub from Edifier is a little monster on its own lol.The proof is most people will realise that the perfect setting for this sub most of the time is just turning to volume to about 30 percent and to leave it there lol.You can't even have it half way most of the time so much it is boomy and powerfull. Now lots of people who buy subs like this often complain about it not being very powerfull and stuff but i wonder do they really test it out properly? What do they use to test it? Just watching regular tv signals? lol common thats not the proper test. The proper test for any sub should be first of all to test it with a bluray player playing movies that are known to have good bass and good sound mixes.Thats what i did.I watched a couple of movies known to have great bass sound mixes. The only mistake i made was playing fast and furious 9 as one of the first test. That movie's bass isn't all that great to be honest.I then went with bad boys for life.Wow that's when i saw how good the sub was. This movie has amazing bass and the sub blew me away.I then continued with other great bass movies like 'Tenet',Terminator dark fate,Twisters,Mad max fury road,Furiosa a mad max story(outstanding bass on that one) and yesterday i watched 'ambulance'.The bass was so loud and strong on ambulance that i had to lower it a lot because i could feel it was hurting my ears with it's low frequencies lol.Plus a lot of times watching some of thoses i was a bit worried i would bother my neibhors with the strong bass so much the sub has power and was shaking my floor from time to time. You can tell the company that made this thing is honest about theyre product and believe in it just by the fact that they always sell this sub by stating the RMS power being 70 watts. They never state peak power and hide RMS power like so many other companies trying to make theyre product appear better than it actually is.Edifier doesnt do that because they know they have a good product and don't need to trick people. This sub actually feels like its twice the RMS power of 70 watts. To finish this review i will say that yes i did experience the annoying auto power saving feature that kicks in from time to time lol.But the only times it happened to me was when i was watching something from a signal other than a bluray player. When using a bluray player and watching movies that way it never happened to me even when i paused the movie for a good while. But when using another signal source it did happen a few times and the only way to get the sub out of sleep mode was too put the volume higher on the receiver until it kicked back out of sleep mode.I heard to fix that problem you need to use an RCA Y splitter and connect your receiver to both inputs on the sub so that it gets a strong signal or something like that.I have been using a Y splitter since 2 days so i will let ya know in my next extended review after 3 months if it worked for that. But i have noticed that since using the Y splitter it seemed to have boosted the power of the sub even more if that's even possible lol.It seems now even putting the knob to 30 percent gain seems like its at 50 or 60 lol.So anyways yes maybe the power saving mode might annoy some especially if your not using a Y splitter cable and your not using a source like a bluray player to watch stuff. But i think this beast of a sub is still worth buying. Some reviewers have said that this sub is not for a home theater and only good for a pc set of speakers. That is not the case.Maybe if someone has a huge living room or huge space ya maybe this sub wont be enough but if your living room is average size this thing is definately powerfull enough and this sub is definately good for an average size home theater. And personally i find that its even a bit overkill for a pc setup. Also i forgot to mention that beside the performance of sub it's design and quality is outstanding too.The knobs on the back are perfect. They have a superb feel to them and durable. The fake black wood vinyl wrap looks good too.It has a nice sturdy grill on the front that attaches strongly to it.everything about it says quality made.It feels like this thing will last a good while.
