It is difficult to find a double boiler. Although I wish I could find one for my 2 qt. saucepan, this will work fine.

All-Clad pans are a life-time purchase. The pots and pans are made of heavy gauge stainless steel, so it distributes heat really well. I don't ever have to use it above medium heat. The handles are riveted on and the pot is heavy because it is a nice, thick stainless steel. It can be washed in the dishwasher. If you are looking for something that you never have to replace, this is the brand to buy. They are more expensive at the out-set, but you will NEVER have to replace them or worry about them warping. I can even use them in my oven.

Works perfectly for its intended purpose: adding double boiler capacity to the 3 or 4 quart All-Clad sauce pan that you already own. It’s responsive, fairly easy to clean, and should last forever. There are a lot of reviews here from disappointed purchasers who feel that All-Clad has compromised their standards with this double boiler. A few thoughts... While this pan insert is extremely well-made from heavy-duty stainless, it’s much lighter than other All-Clad pans that are designed to be placed directly on the stove BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE. A double boiler insert has to be responsive to gentle steam heat, hence the single wall that is less thick than D3 or D5 or Copper Core. It’s a feature not a defect. The double boiler insert is made from non-magnetic stainless steel, i.e., can’t be used directly on induction burners, and is more resistant to oxidation than 18/10 stainless which works with induction. It isn’t designed EVER to be used as a single pan, but only to be inserted in other All-Clad pans. So again, this is a feature not a defect. The stainless handle is shorter than the handles on the premium All-Clad pan lines, which makes it easier to manage the two pans. Another feature that isn’t a defect. The pressed-out lip that allows the double boiler to sit inside a pan is shaped such that it is fairly easy to clean. Hard to describe, but the lip is more open on the top and that makes it easier to clean. When taking into account the specific requirements of a double boiler insert compared to a pan meant to go directly on the stove, the design, material and build quality of this insert equals that of the premium All-Clad pan lines. It is beautifully crafted from materials that will last forever. Yes, it is produced in China rather than in the States. Honestly, in a time where inflation is making it hard for working families to manage costs, All-Clad may deserve recognition for working to keep costs down on an item that would have cost more to produce in the U.S., even while they continue to produce their core three and five ply cookware lines here. Finally, for the folks who are disappointed that this double boiler insert doesn’t work well as a stand-alone 3 quart sauce pan….maybe you should have read the product description before ordering it rather than dinging it in your rating because of your own user error?

I only use All-Clad pots and pans. Years of using thin, poorly designed pots and pans made me realize I needed an upgrade. No regrets buying and using All-Clad. Ever.
