Even with the now outlandish price, this is still the best mouse around
One of the greatest computer mice ever. As someone who spends a lot of time on a computer for work and enjoys gaming on a computer as well, I use mice fairly often. While I am no expect in the technologies that go into a mouse, I know what I like and what works. This mouse delivers. In terms of the style, this is a fingertip or claw grip mouse. You certainly could use it for a palm grip, but you'd need to have smaller hands (many men and some women would find it too small for a palm grip style of use). That said, the mouse is extremely comfortable to use. The clicks are incredibly satisfying and clear to hear. The scroll wheel likewise gives a tapping noise each time you rotate. Both let you know you've clicked without being too loud or distracting. The actual main buttons are built seamlessly into the body of the mouse and depress easily but noticeably--you won't have any difficulty learning how much pressure to apply to each click. The on-the-fly DPI buttons (speeding up or slowing down the speed of the cursor) are a nice feature, all the more so because there are only three options. I like options, but too many makes my head spin; three choices is going to be the sweet spot for a lot of people. Finally, the front and back arrow buttons on the side by your thumb are awesome. Even a non-gamer would adore this feature of the mouse; the side buttons make surfing the internet a breeze. This is a wired mouse, and while some may prefer a wireless mouse, I prefer the responsiveness of a wire. And what a wire! The cable is over six feet long, allowing for almost any desk setup you want. The covering on the wire is extremely durable and protective while staying flexible. The final feature I like about this mouse is the adjustable weight cartridge. This is such a ground-breaking feature and one I wish every mouse had. Basically, you play around with different layouts and weights in the cartridge until you find one that you like just right, and then you can forget about it. My mouse is exactly the weight I want it to be, not the weight the manufacturer decided. It is a feature you will quickly forget about but one that impacts you daily. Sadly, the very strengths of this mouse are probably why it isn't being made anymore; it is just too durable for the company to make money on it. I've had mine for eight years(!) and it is still going strong. It is used virtually every day, some days for hours. I cannot even calculate the sheer number of clicks, scrolls, and taps this mouse has endured. Aside from the occasional cleaning I've done nothing special to maintain it. Do yourself a favor and try to find this mouse. I can't tell you what price point is too high, but if you can count on reliable and amazing service for 8 years (and counting!) from a device you likely will use on a daily basis, you should probably be willing to pay more than you'd think. This is a phenomenal mouse.

Great mouse on a terrible cord!
I love this mouse, the weights are great, the laser is smooth on all surfaces, the hand contouring is excellent. But it is attached to the computer with the most bizarre cord. The cord is thin plastic covered with some sort of material. The cord is stiff and does not move well. It also gets serious kinks with plastic pinched and protruding through the fabric. We own two of these mice, and both had kinks within a few weeks of purchase. My son's is so bad that we are replacing the mouse after 2 months of use. Despite trying to straighten the kinks and support it with electrical tape, the mouse is acting flaky already. I am not as hard on a mouse, but mine has developed a couple of major kinks. Plus I hate the stiffness of the cord, I always seem to be trying to wrestle it into place. I supposed I will need to replace my mouse soon as well. These mice are too expensive to replace after a few months use!! Its a shame that Logitec decided to go with this odd-ball cord on this great mouse. In my opinion, the poor cord has ruined this fine mouse.

Wow, I had no idea that the price had gone up so much since 2008, when I bought my mouse. Judging from the pictures, It seems that there aren't many differences, but I'm surprised at the price. With that out of the way, I've had my G5 since 2008, and I still love it. I was expecting black/orange when I purchased it, but now I see that black/blue is the only option, so I must have messed up my order. However, this mouse has been extremely reliable for me. I've used it so much that the bottom is actually starting to wear out a bit from me having a bad mousepad and my extremely frequent use. The lettering of 'Gaming Grade Laser' has worn off, along with the max DPI lettering, and there seems to be a circle appearing around the laser diode. At best, I would say that this mouse will last me another five years, and that's IF I don't get a new one. The side-scrolling isn't very useful, but it doesn't hurt to have it, especially when there's something that requires side-scrolling. I don't know anybody who prefers to use the scroll bars on the sides and bottoms of webpages. The On-The-Fly DPI change buttons are out of the way, yet still accessible enough for me on those rare occasions that I turn the DPI down from max. The braided cord feels strong and resilient, but you should definitely have some slack on your cord or take some time to get used to it, as it is a tad stiff. I like the option for the weight cartridge, as it allows me to get my mouse to a weight that works nicely for me(maxed out weight), and keep a good amount of overall control. The overall shape of the mouse fits my gorilla-hand nicely, as well. I don't use the side buttons much, but they're out of the way, which I think is a good thing, because I don't want to hit one by accident. They make nice Ventrilo/Teamspeak PTT keys, as well. The only thing I dislike about the side buttons is the fact that they are also Windows's browser-pare-back and browser-page-forward, however, that isn't the mouse's fault. Nothing much else to say, really. Awesome mouse, if you ever decide to get it.

Best mouse I've owned. I've used this model for years until recently it died. I had a hard time finding a replacement for under $100. I was very excited to find this one for .99 cents!
