Nice and bright - well made very reliable
Nice and bright - well made very reliable ... the early vintage 70's one I replaced due to a battery leak (thanks Everready!) required you push the slide down to activate the light. Here you have a light switch as well as the option for USB power.

4.5 stars, actually
The LED backlight is even and bright enough. I have trouble releasing mounted slides, unless the back of the viewer is tilted up a bit. I like the USB power, instead of batteries. Haven't yet tried unmounted film. At such a modest price, it's worthwhile for me. I'm sorting about 20 years worth of slides before sending them to be scanned. So this will pay for itself in the long run.

Works for initial screening
I inherited several thousand slides and film strips that needed to be triaged. This worked well to screen the slides many of which were of landscapes, flowers, etc. keeping only those of people and unique places. Due to the shape of the lens and the somewhat reflective sides, most slides showed some ghosting. However, it met my goal of screening slides. Images on film strips were not as satisfactory due to their relativly smaller format. It was possible to see enough of the image to choose individual photos for development. Ability to charge the internal battery with the included USB cable was a definite plus

Bright and easy to use
I've had it about three weeks and have viewed several hundred slides from the 1980s and 1990s. So far it's been nearly perfect.I had concerns before buying it. I read reviews about all the slide viewers including this one. All of them had complaints about major problems with slides sticking, about the image not being large enough, and about it not bring bright enough. None of those have been problems for me.Slides do once in a while stick inside the viewer, but simply jiggling the eject button and sometimes holding the viewer upside down has solved the problem. It hasn't happened often, and it might have been because I didn't press the eject button forcefully enough. I'm still experimenting with that.Brightness is not a problem. It's very bright. The image is clear and easy to see. Some reviews complain about 3" being too small, but I think it's a good compromise. A larger viewer would be less convenient to hold (though it won't matter as much to people who use it on a desk).Overall, I wonder why I didn't buy one of these decades ago.

Not What I Was Expecting!
The description/picture of the product shows a clear picture of the inserted negative. All this thing does is magnify the negative, similar to holding the negative up to the light.

Great but Slides Tend to Stick in One Corner
This is perfect for what I bought it for. I wanted to look at some very old family slides. My only complaint is that when ejecting the slide, it frequently gets stuck in one corner, and I have to go in with tweezers to get the slide out. It got annoying after a while and I quit looking at slides. Function wise it does what it's supposed to.

Easy to use
While cleaning out a closet, we came across boxes and boxes of slides that my grandfather took. Curious as we were, we couldn't find the slide projector. I jumped on Amazon and found this. It works like a dream and the large screen helps with viewing. I highly recommend it!
