Creamy Coconut (Smoothing) Conditioner

I have struggled with extremely tangled hair my whole life, particularly when wet/damp. In addition to the horror that was involved with brushing my hair after washing it, I also had a strange frizzy, inconsistent, hair texture. I always just assumed that genetics had simply cursed me with terrible hair, an oily scalp, and an eclectic assortment of curly/wavy/straight patches that would always be too wild to wear out in public without tons of hair product and/or heat. Everything involving the taming of this head was a nightmare and I avoided it as much as possible. In addition having a mind of its own, my hair was also appearing to thin out significantly.A few years ago I grew hip to the disturbing ingredients in a lot of the common household items I had been using and switched over to predominantly organic and safe products. Originally I had tried the H&D Naturals shampoo and conditioner in tea tree and started noticing a slight improvement in my overall hair quality. Slowly my hair began to feel as if it were thickening back up, yet miraculously it was also becoming softer and easier to manage. I recently decided to switch things up a bit and try the shea butter and oatmeal combo and all I can say is WOW. It truly is amazing. My hair has gone from ok, to the best it has ever been. It is soooo soft and easy to brush now. I hardly spend any time styling it anymore. It air drys wonderfully and these locks have never felt and looked so healthy, all with literally no effort. As a busy grad student, I have nowhere near enough time to worry about my hair and after using this product for over 2 months you'd never guess that.On top of having instantly wearable hair for the first time ever, I've started to realize how much my hairline had started to thin and recede. Even my eyebrows have finally started to thicken back up again. A little goes a long way and although it doesn't sud much, you can definitely feel its cleansing power as it quickly strips away that gunky oil feeling leaving the hair soft, light and clean. The smell is subtle and as someone who hates artificial fragrance scents, I really enjoy it. Thanks for making my hair effortlessly awesome Hugo and Deb! I highly recommend this stuff!

I am sorry to say that this is the worst conditioner I have ever tried. It has absolutely no slip and left my long hair in one huge tangled mess. It took me about 30 minutes to get all the knots out with a wide tooth comb and my hair felt just as dry as it did before I used the conditioner. Definitely not moisturizing!I love experimenting with hair products and have tried a LOT of conditioners many of which were silicone free, so this has nothing to do with my hair needing to adjust to the feeling of silicone free conditioners. This conditioner is just flat out terrible…I decided to give it a second chance and used it on my cosmetology mannequin who has 100% human hair. I figured that since her hair is much shorter than mine it wouldn’t really matter if the conditioner was bad. WRONG… Her hair turned into a huge matted mess. I was worried it might be ruined. I didn’t want to damage the hair by forcing a comb through it so I tried adding a glob of another conditioner and thankfully the tangles melted away immediately. I know it’s the conditioner and not the mannequin because I’ve washed 3 sets of hair for the same mannequin with different conditioners and never had this problem.Luckily, this conditioner has one redeeming quality. :) It works great as a shaving cream! So if you’re stuck with a bottle of this unfortunate product try it out as a shaving cream, you just might like it. I might even repurchase just to save money on shaving cream. Maybe Hugo Naturals can re-market it as a shaving lotion?

When I switched to using more natural products I tried quite a few shampoos and conditioners, most of which I did not like. I initially did not like this one much either, but I forced myself to give it a chance and now I wouldn't exchange it for anything else.When you get too used to using drugstore conditioners laden with chemicals, it is hard to start using a natural conditioner because natural conditioners do not have the silicones that give your hair that silky smooth texture you feel as you are rinsing it out. I was very used to that feeling, so when I would rinse my hair with this, I felt like it was drier and my hair would feel sort of tangled. The reason I do not mind it though, is because #1 it smells beyond amazing, i never had a conditioner smell as great as this and #2 once my hair has completely dried, it looks healthy and smells great, and I do not notice any negatives in the appearance of my hair. I think the fact that you aren't applying chemicals to your head outweighs the silky feel that drugstore conditioners give your hair as you are rinsing them out.
