It’s durable... that’s all.
This is a tough case but I think if you need such durability you might as well get an otterbox or unicorn beetle style case with a portable Bluetooth keyboard, because the compromises made by this case in order to be tough but Apple Smart Keyboard compatible are just too much.1. You gotta get your thumbs involved and pry the corners of the iPad out of the case each time you want to use the keyboard. This is kind of hard to do, and far from elegant.2. The iPad actually slips down in the case when it’s leaned up to use the keyboard in the more relaxed angle setting. This causes a few things to happen:A. The camera bulge pushes against the Smart Cover and the case in a slight but ugly way, because the iPad wants to slip out of the case but camera bulge is clinging on for dear life.B. The power and volume buttons become less sensitive because they are barely in contact with the case buttons due to iPad slippage. C. It’s really hard to pack up the iPad because now in addition to having to reseat the corners of the case over the iPad, you have to first shove the iPad + Smart Cover back up against the pencil side of the case. This ain’t easy.

Too thick for proper use of a cover.
The build-quality is good, but compared to other far less expensive cases this one just doesn't make sense if purchased as daily carry. In my non-engi'nerd opinion, the case is too substantial to be used with the smart cover or smart keyboard, as the magnets lack the strength to remain both closed against the screen and open against the back of the device. In my experience this lack of "cling" causes the cover to flap away from the device surface and the momentum/weight would cause it to fully detach from the iPad, falling to the ground. Not being able to truly work with a SmartKeyboard makes this a poor purchase decision on my part. I purchased on Amazon, but I really question why Apple is selling it in their store if it has these limitations. I will no longer use that as a guide for finding good accessories.

Had to re-review this case because....
While the Apple Smart Keyboard provides next to zero protection on the backside of the iPad, and this case makes up for the lack of protection, that is about it for this case. I won’t even go into the fact that the iPad slips down every time it’s open (“L” position for using the keyboard)... that is somewhat tolerable. The power button issue, though... After using it for 2 months, I cannot stand the poor design for a power button cover. EVERY TIME I move the iPad - even try to use the Force on it, this case pushes the power button - EVERY SINGLE TIME. Siri pops up... the iPad goes to sleep... Siri pops up again... the iPad goes to sleep again... this non-stop annoyance all because of a TERRIBLE design flaw. I can see why the price dropped $20 since I purchased it (which also adds a bit of annoyance). The idea had promise, but the execution is terrible.

Great case! Just what i have been looking for ...
Great case! Just what i have been looking for as I frequently use my IPad on a construction site. I teamed this with the Apple magnetic cover which I just remove when walking the site. . In fact, the sales person at the Apple store was impressed with this case which they do not carry. The pencil holder is a huge plus but also the reason why I can't give it 5 stars! It holds the pencil very firmly, but so firmly it's hard to remove the pencil. I added a pencil 'clip' for better grip to remove the pencil. Seemed they could have notched the bottom of the grove then the pencil could be slid out fairly easily.UPDATE: As my earlier review states, as other have, that removing the pencil is difficult. So being an engineer, and tinker, I thought of ways to make it easier. So I took a sharp knife and cut a portion of the rubber at the bottom of the pencil holder. That is typically where the pointed end of the pencil sits. Now all that is needed is to 'slide' the pencil down the holder and it pops out at the bottom! Now easy to remove! The holder is tight enough that the pencil will not come out accidentally. I think the manufacturer should incorporate this into a design modification! See Photo.

best case I have ever had, after two modifications for the Apple Pencil.
This is an amazing cover. The durability and quality of the materials are top notch. This is, by far, the best iPad case I have ever owned. Unfortunately, I can only give the case four stars. The part of the case that holds the pencil, grips it so tightly that it cannot be removed. To correct this, I trimmed away some of the rubber, leaving the tip of the Apple Pencil exposed. I can get a grip on the pencil that way and remove the pencil. The second flo to correct this, I trimmed away some of the rubber, leaving the tip of the Apple Pencil exposed. I can get a grip on the pencil that way and remove the pencil. The second flaw Is that the hole In the case to allow access to the lightning port is too small. The Apple Pencil will not plug in to the port. Again, I removed a little of the rubber so that the pencil can connect. After those two modifications, this is clearly the best Chase I’ve ever had.
