The description to me seems a little strange, as if this were 2 speakers of different size one 6x8 and one 5x7, what's the deal here?

Both speakers are 5x7 but will mount in either a 5x7 or 6x8 hole. I noticed the odd description too. I have replaced all four stock speakers in my Ford Taurus with these with no modification.

Are these 8 ohms impedence speakers?

No they are 4 ohms car audio. House speakers are 8 ohms.
