Has this tablet receve the marshmallow update? and if so, can the SD card be formated as internal storage?

As of 5/9/2017, the tablet still comes with Lollipop, with no option to update to Marshmallow OTA.

Is this tablet faster than the cheaper galaxy tab e lite?

Never owned the cheaper version. But can tell you that this tablet is very fast. It's been a great purchase for us.

Will i have to activate it to work with sprint or any other carrier?

As well as I can remember, this tablet does not have/contain a transceiver that is able to work with a cell-phone provider. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A is not intended to be, nor is it designed to be, a cell-phone. The same type of tablet is sold by Amazon as Fire in a minimal form as Fire 7 and as a rather competent form as Fire 8.
