Great revision
It is with great surprise and pleasure that I received Jack Bourne 's book " Essential Revision Notes for the FRCS (Urol). As I am involved in training urology residents for post graduate examinations in Pakistan I have found this book very useful for the candidates. Almost all important topics in urology have been dealt with in a very precise manner. This revision book is helpful for a candidate who has covered all the subjects in Urology and wants a quick review to jog his memory. As a teacher I will also find it very useful to assess a candidate about his theoritical knowledge in urology and I would gladly recommend it to the urology trainees. In criticizing this book I have only two points to make.First there should be a separate section about Renal Transplantation. In Pakistan we do make it a point that a urology trainee should have seen and preferably assisted renal Transplantation surgery. There is always a question in OSCE about Transplantation.Second ..in oral viva examination while discussing management we also sometimes discuss specific complications associated with certain surgical and medical procedures and how to manage these complications. I think in future editions of this book these issues should be discussed as well.DR Shahab JavidFRCS ( Glasgow), Dip in Urology (London)Consultant UrologyLiaquat National medical college and hospitalKarachiPakistan

Excellent starting point for lots of the key basic facts
It is difficult to know exactly where to start and how much to revise for the FRCS(Urol), especially when the first Section is an MCQ consisting of multiple random facts. This book, published by a recent successful exam candidate from their own revision notes, has been invaluable so far in emphasising the key facts about the vast majority of knowledge required beyond that used in daily clinical practice. It's provided a good springboard for looking at other resources, eg journals, papers and guidelines, and I would strongly recommend it to any Urology registrar looking to sit the exam.

Essential reading for FRCS (Urol)
This book is a must have read for all those preparing for FRCS (Urol) and also for those just wanting to improve their urological knowledge. The layout and structure of the book makes it a very easy to follow as well as being an interesting read. I have found studying for the FRCS quite a daunting process however this book has given me the guidance & motivation I need to start this! My only complaint is that I wish it had been published sooner!

Essential reading for any specialist trainee.
I picked this up half way through ST5 and wish it had been available for the first day of training. An excellent book that along with volume 2 manages to condense the majority of the urology syllabus into two almost pocket sized guides. Great to have in your bag at work to read in between theatre cases or in preparation for a mock viva.It lacks a lot of the detail and basic science which is required for the part one of the FRCS Urol, but should be thought of as useful notes rather than full textbook.
