Product Description Starring Vic Mignogna, Luci Christian. Review The latest in a series of test preparation DVDs for young people, Earth Science takes viewers on an amazing, computer-animated journey sure to capture the imagination as well as educate. Designed specifically to prepare viewers for standardized tests at grade five, Earth Science hosted by the cheerful Marko the Pencil, and covers topics ranging from how Earth's orbit causes the seasons to the water cycle, what causes weather, sedimentary rocks and fossils, topography and volcanoes, plate tectonics, energy and resources, and much more. A welcome addition to public and especially grade school libraries, and the perfect gift for any child with a blossoming interest in science. --James Cox, Midwest Book Review Child Bookwatch DVD ShelfIf you have a pre-teen child who is studying Earth Science in school you will positively be amazed at how helpful, reinforcing and supportive this DVD is. The same topics that they are spending their days learning in school: astronomy, geology, mineralogy, weather, soil erosion, etc. are all here with visually appealing, colorful animations. What made it more fun than school was a certain sense of fun that Rock 'N Learn sprinkles liberally throughout the DVD. Whether it is the fun characters or some silly banter it clearly worked. The use of rhyme and rhythm to memorize planet names and other scientific facts was not only viewed by parents as ingenious but exceptionally effective as well. --Review from The National Parenting Center's Seal of ApprovalThis product is kid appealing and keeps children interested. The DVD is exceptionally well planned and is amazingly informative without the children losing interest. The DVD was so interesting, not only to the children, but to the parents as well. It was fun to sit and get involved with the DVD and test our knowledge of what we knew now and what we never knew before. It was helpful and easy to understand for children of all ages. --Reviewer from iParenting Media Awards Best Products

Earth Science for 5th Graders
I teach 4th and 5th grade science to a group of urban and multicultural students. This is the first DVD I have seen that effectively addresses Earth Science content that will appeal to the age group and to English learners. The program has chapters on all of the key ES concepts and provides a quiz to test knowledge which includes some test taking tips. The characters are funny and add songs to aid in understanding. They have Italian and New York accents (my background) so I can introduce my California kids to East Coast style. After this review, I'm writing the company to request a similar program for 4th/5th Life Science. It must have been designed by middle school science teachers, because it hits the mark perfectly.

Educational and fun
I was sick of my kids watching silly movies and cartoons in the car when we were driving around, so I took out all the cartoons and movies and replaced them with 3 different educational videos from this company, and my kids have been watching them and enjoying them!! And I get to feel better about what they are watching! :-)I definitely recommend these videos to anyone, and I think they are really great for the car because they are really paying attention to the video.

my boys love it
3 & 5 year old sons love it and will stay glued to it. My 5 year old retains most of the info and asks more probing or clarifying questions that what is provided which shows he is understanding what it's teaching. A little cheesebally to me, but hey I'm not a kid, they really like it. At first I was like "uh oh" thinking maybe they wouldn't, but it's solid in what it's teaching and grabs their attention for the entire program.

Helpful, but annoying voices....
So, this video is very helpful. My 3 year old knows his planets in order from this song! My 6 year old understands all about planets, rocks, etc. Downside...one of the characters has a REALLY annoying voice. I am from NY, but goodness, this is ridiculous. She can actually confuse things because of pronounciation! If you can get past the voices, this video is great.

Simply amazing!
I got Earth Science: Rock 'N Learn for my kids last Christmas. I read many of the great reviews about the product, and wanted them to watch something educational and fun especially during long car rides. We all enjoy watching this DVD and my seven-year old has developed an interest in geography and astronomy thanks to this DVD. I gave it to his first grade teacher and she was wowed!

Great for a young audience.
We found the material is well covered but the style of presentation appears to be for a younger audience than Grade 5. We find The Magic School Bus materials are more engaging in their style of presentation and The Magic School Bus story books cover more details on each subject. However, this video covers some concepts The Magic School Bus series does not. This is a good addition to our educational library for our 4 year old.

Content good but the DVDs are cheaply made.
Bought four of these. Life science, earth science, physical science and the human body. All four of them have trouble playing. At times they won't read at all. Other times they skip or freeze.(out of the box) the last one we purchased was physical science and not only does it have trouble playing like the others but with this one a section of the video is looped. The content is ok if not great but after purchasing four of these I can firmly say the DVDs are junk. What the children are able to watch they do enjoy.

Very educational
My grandson loves and collects rocks. He doesn't know the names of them, just that the size and fit in his had is perfect. The Earth Science book has a section about rocks. Now he can put the DVD in the computer and learn at his own pace, or when he has a new find.
