A Resurrection for the Little Suns
Dateline: A Fence Line, Dotted with Dying Solar Lights, Late Saturday Night. There is a slow, sad death that comes for all solar lights. They, the brave little sentinels of the night, begin to falter. Their once-proud glow fades to a weak, flickering apology. Their internal power source, a cheap battery thrown in by the manufacturer, has surrendered to the brutal, relentless cycle of being baked by the sun all day and drained all night. My fence post caps were dying. It was time for a full-scale resurrection. The salvation arrived in a set of small, green cylinders: EBL AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries. They come neatly packed in a simple, practical plastic case, a small touch of organizational genius for the well-prepared operator. Now, we must have a word about chemistry. We live in an age obsessed with lithium, the high-strung, high-performance racehorse of the battery world. But to put a volatile lithium battery inside a small plastic box that sits baking in the merciless summer sun all day… that is a gamble. A roll of the dice with a phenomenon known as "thermal runaway," a polite term for a spontaneous chemical meltdown. No, for this job, you need a workhorse. A sturdier, more stable beast. You need NiMH. Nickel-Metal Hydride. It may not have the glamour or the raw, explosive power of its lithium cousin, but it will not try to burn your house down. It is the sensible, pragmatic choice for the thinking man. The transplant process is simple. You pop open the dying solar lights, you pull out the dead or dying cells, and you replace them with these fresh, green soldiers. They are the new hearts for your little suns. And the result is a glorious, immediate return to form. As dusk fell, my entire platoon of fence post lights came back to life, shining with a vigor and longevity they hadn't shown since they were first pulled from their boxes. They run strong, they last through the night, and they do it without the low-grade, background anxiety of a potential chemical fire. I know these batteries have the guts for the long haul. I have another set of these same EBLs still kicking, still holding a charge, in a different set of lights after two full years of faithful service. They are durable. They are reliable. For the money, you will not find a better, more practical deal. You get a whole arsenal of high-quality, long-lasting, and—most importantly—stable rechargeable batteries for a price that feels like a bargain. This is a five-star, no-brainer solution for anyone looking to breathe new life into their solar-powered army. Highly recommended.

Good solid rechargeable batteries
These rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride batteries arrived fully charged and in excellent condition. Note that NiMH batteries produce only 1.2v instead of the 1.5v you might be accustomed to seeing, but in most applications this won't matter and won't even be noticeable. If you see a difference in performance, you might need to use conventional Alkaline or carbon batteries in that device. These batteries have a 2500 mAh capacity, which translates to long life. Alkaline AA batteries, by comparison, range from as low as 1750 to 2800 mAh in the premium ones, so these batteries are in the top part of the range. They recharged nicely to 1.3v after their initial as-delivered charge of 1.3v, so they are performing as advertised. I also like that they come in a nice little plastic snap-case for storage and transport. Rechargeable batteries are one small way to avoid putting toxic metals into our landfills and polluting waterways and oceans. Even if you're not an environmental warrior, you can benefit by not having to buy batteries every time one stops working. And if you're like me, you have lots of battery-powered devices that always seem to need fresh batteries! From both the pollution and economic standpoint, rechargeable batteries make good sense, and I'm giving these all 5 stars.

Nice set of batteries with a long lasting charge at a decent price
Nice set of batteries with a long lasting charge at a decent price. These are definitely a lot better than disposable batteries. I've used these for quite some time and they still hold a good charge.

Excellent Buy
I use these mainly in LED lights, flashlights, and a portable multi-track audio recorder. These have a high storage capacity. As with most other NiMH batteries, there is a parasitic discharge, but I don't know what the 'shelf life' is before they should be recharged. I keep a few fully charged and ready too go. I do have one decorative Christmas lantern that these batteries just would not fit. Other reviewers reported having the same issue with some devices. I measured the diameter of the batteries that would not fit and the largest diameter I measured was 14.41 mm, less than the maximum diameter of 14.5 mm for an AA battery. So the problem is not with the battery, but the equipment manufacturer. Fortunately, with my lantern, there were dividers (that had no real function for safety or operation) that I cut down so they still separated the batteries, but allow them to fit comfortably in the battery compartment. At least one reviewer complained that the manufacturer decided to make these 1.2v instead of 1.5 v (as with the disposable carbon cells and alkaline cells). Yes, these are 1.2v and the manufacturer didn't decide to make them 1.2v, chemistry decided to do that. As far as I know, all current NiMH rechargeable batteries are 1.2v, as are in some other rechargeable battery chemistries. EBL also has their own brand of chargers. I have a couple different brands of chargers and these batteries charge just fine in the chargers I already own. If you have kids with lots of battery powered toys, then these batteries can save you money. These batteries are an excellent buy and are only about twice the cost of inexpensive one-time-use batteries.

It is NOT 1.5V battery as everyone is used to. For some reason the manufacturer decided to make them in 1.2V Many devices, especially LED lights do not function even with the fully charged batteries.
