Nothing like the real thing baby!
Don't be fooled by the knock offs. There is no substitute for the real thing, and this is it. I was seduced into buying the cheaper model:it looked similar, but the filters didn't fit and the metal filter did not tap sediment and oils. This one makes a beautiful cup of coffee, rich and clear, the filters are easy to use, and it makes 3-6 oz cups of coffee.

Get the handle if you make a lot of coffee
First of all, this is listed as a three cup coffeemaker. Maybe if you count a French demitasse as a full cup, that is true. This makes me one mug of coffee if I overfill the carafe above the bump on the glass and up to the filter. And unless you are a pro Chemex user, you may not know that the bump signifies a full carafe in this model, but a half-filled carafe in larger ones.I bought a six cup version with a glass handle and I highly recommend the glass handle. The bamboo wood holder with leatherette tie is nice and stylish, but I cannot recall the number of times I have burned myself trying to pour out coffee, much less the number of times the tie just comes loose and everything just flops around. Also the glassware doesn't promote a lack of suction or bubbling on the filter spout. I have even stuck a glass stirbar in between the filter and the flask to keep that from happening-makes a mess on the counter otherwise.I'm not sure what the exclusive packaging really brings - once I used this one I purchased a glass handle version from Chemex so I don't have to deal with the weird split wood handle that isn't really clear whether it is right side up or upside down. That glass handled version wasn't available from Amazon.

Great taste and clean way to get your coffee
I have enjoyed using the Chemex coffee brew system. I did have a Keurig, but I felt like it was never clean, and there was no way to clean inside of it. I was concerned that was what was causing me to have additional allergies and issues with my health. Lots of research I found Chemex. Having the system all glass, I’m able to clean it thoroughly each time. I got the 3 cup size, which is perfect for just me to use. I have tried the half filters as well as the folded filters. I recommend the square pre-folded filters because they do not have a seam where the grounds can escape. You just have to add an additional fold for the 3 – cup size. I also got a stainless steel electric kettle. This is a great combination. If you are concerned about if your Keurig or coffee maker is fully clean, I highly recommend this product. It is very easy to use and the coffee taste great. The only thing I don’t really like and wish was different. Is the wood band on it. As you can see from the photos, it gets worn down after getting wet through the washes. The leather knot is too hard to undo each time so I don’t untie the knot anymore. I tried untying it a few times but it is hard to get back on tight enough. They need a band of some sort that does better with washing instead of wood— or something easier to remove.

not properly weighted.
Awesome but. Great way to boil coffee, it creates a clean fresh taste. The issue is that when you pick up the glass container it is bottom heavy due to shape and you need two hands to pour out and strain the liquid. However, I would not ever go back to a metal container. It makes a 12 ounce container full if you use it boil the coffee in it.

Well Worth the Effort - Even for the Morning Mentally Challenged!!!
We're weaning ourselves off the Keurig mainly due to the limited choices of environmentally friendly packaging, but also because you simply get better tasting coffee outside of the Keurig realm After some research, we landed on the Chemex - and LOVE it!!!It's definitely a bit more of an investment of time and labor than simply popping a Keurig plastic cup into a brewer, and on the those mornings when you need it east and fast, the Chemex solution might feel like a Herculean effort, but if you are willing to preserve, you will be rewarded with some superior coffee. It really helps if you have an electric kettle to get the water super hot and while it's boiling you can get the filter ready. Also, if you go this route, invest in a good burr coffee grinder. Amazon has a great selection of both appliances. I was totally skeptical that a grinder could really make a difference, but since we happened to have both the fancy Krups burr grinder and a cheap Krups grinder I put them both to the test, and was quite surprised to find it does make a difference. Having lost the bet with my better half over this issue, I now have to make the coffee in the morning for the next month. You do need a filter for the carafe, and Chemex of course has their version. I have to wonder about the folks at Chemex, they really made the filter thing a bit of an origami project and when you are half asleep trying to pull off a focused project, you might be tempted to throw a cup under the Keurig and be done. But if you can manage enough brain cells to get the filter folded (and the trick is make sure the little half circle thing is opened properly inside - again, a bit of feat when your eyes are barely open - otherwise coffee grounds will go right through). Chemex does sell pre-folded filters for the morning mentally challenged. So you may ask, why not just use the plain cone filters. Well, they don't fit properly and the mess you will have on your hands will leave you even more cranky than you were (yep, tried this and it was NOT a short-cut).Once the water is ready, you pour over it the grounds, wait a minute or two and repeat until the carafe is mostly full (great opportunity to get that dishwasher emptied while you are making the coffee). Remove the filter which is compostable or recyclable in the green waste can, so you can do your part for the environment, and pour your beautiful cup of joe. Obviously the major benefit of making coffee this way is you can buy really, really good beans. The carafe cleans up well and the coffee is downright awesome. If you have visited any of the more trendy coffee houses and noticed many are doing this pour-over type of coffee, and if you are patient, you will be rewarded with a truly fine cup of coffee.
