Inspector Singh Investigates: A Frightfully English Execution: Number 7 in series

Love this book-- and the entire series!
I've loved this series since its inception (A Most Peculiar Malaysian Murder). Inspector Singh's boss hates him but can't fire him because Singh has the highest rates of solved crime in all of Singapore. Instead, Singh is sent out to as many conferences or loaned out to as many other police organizations as possible. I've willingly followed on all of his adventures because watching this grumpy man solve crimes is so much fun, and while I'm having fun Flint has acquainted me with several Southeast Asian settings (perfect for the armchair traveler). In A Frightfully English Execution, we not only get to watch Singh compare London to Singapore, we get to witness Mrs. Singh become interested in his cold case investigation and help him with it. Is she actually becoming interested in what her husband does for a living? Even though it makes me suspicious, it's refreshing to see a character like Mrs. Singh begin to behave a bit differently. Some of the best parts of this book are the interior monologues Inspector Singh and his wife have. These monologues contain truths, and they are very often hilarious. They are just like the uncensored thoughts you and I have and do not share with anyone else.A cold case with possible ties to terrorism? Characters who do not behave the way you expect them to? A plot that is a convoluted (but not confusing) delight?Shamini Flint has written another wonderful mystery, and I'm looking forward to the next time I see my old friend Inspector Singh.

Read the whole series.
I started reading the Inspector Singh Investigates series because of the exotic locales used as backdrops to the mysteries. They add a lot to the stories, but I soon became a fan of Inspector Singh of the Singapore Police. He is a rather gruff but basically kind person. He likes his cigarettes, beer and curries and can get cranky if deprived of any of them. He is continually nagged by his wife and his extended family. He is barely tolerated by his boss Superintendent Chen who regularly sends him on assignments out of country. His redeeming quality is that he does one thing extremely well, solve murder mysteries. Because of the way the series is arranged, each story set in a different country, many great secondary characters are left behind. I was hoping that the Cambodian translator, Chhean, would find her way into other stories.

How Does Inspector Singh Feel When His Wife Disappears?
I agree with those who say the Inspector Singh books get better and better. I think I said the same thing when I reviewed his last book.More action (even from Inspector Singh), more intense, more interesting mystery. And then, there's the most surprising happening ever when Inspector Singh's wife disappears. I worry about his health a lot (while reading his books) and have to keep reminding myself that he's not real. Will Inspector Singh make it to the United States? I don't know, but I imagine Australia might be soon. Maybe Hong Kong. Canada? I would love to see Singh do something so wonderful that his boss, Chen, can't help but respect and maybe, grudgingly like him. This is a terrific series and I hope Shamini Flint keeps them coming. And I thank her for the hours of entertainment she has provided.

Bloody Excellent
There’s so much to love about Inspector Singh and this series. Thoughtful, timely, delightful plots blend with the unforgettable character, Inspector Spector . This particular Inspector Singh adventure has our man in London, turning a benign diplomatic visit into a dangerous race against time through the streets of London and beyond as he plots and plods toward a very exciting Dickensian conclusion.

A Real Page Turner
The delightfully crusty Inspector Singh is back. This time he has been sent to London to discuss improving community policing. In reviewing the cold case of the murder of a young Muslim woman Singh's instincts tell him something has been overlooked. Did a member of her devout family kill her? A boyfriend? Into the mix is thrown her middle brother, a possible terrorist, or her youngest brother, a shady businessman. What about her boss, or the best friend who may have stolen her boyfriend?/There are more possible suspects than the police can handle when another woman turns up dead with a killer with the same MO. Ms. Flint keeps the tension high right to the end. A real page turner. I am looking forward to the next Inspector Singh mystery

Great Series
Inspector Singh with his nagging wife and lack of physical fitness is a change from the usual detective. I love the way he gets sent different places. I have bought every book in the series and will continue to do so as new books are released.

Best Inspector Singh to date
I have followed Inspector Singh across exotic locales and wasn't sure what to expect of his misadventures in dreary old London. The cold weather, bland food, and less expedient western policing methods certainly didn't slow him down. The author once again sets the scene against current events and kept me guessing to the very last page as who was the culprit.I have read the entire series and this one is by far my favorite. The characters had depth and all were believable whether they hailed from Singapore, Pakistan, or England. And just when I thought I was knew "whodunnit" there was a plot twist making me go back to square one in my mind. Sherlock would have had a worthy competitor in Inspector Singh. If you like detective and crime novels you'll enjoy this book.

My favourite of the series!
Fantastic story telling with twists and turns aplenty. Mrs Singh's character is developed even further in this book, turning her into as great a character as her husband. I thoroughly enjoyed this, the best one of the series in my opinion.

Disappointing
The first book in the series I haven't enjoyed. Though the clichés help to remember the plot, I still thought there was too much going on.The stars are for Mrs Singh who remains very funny.
