I am IMPRESSED!
I used to control my astrophotography gear with USB active extension cables (USB2.0) and a 7 port USB hub, but it was not ideal due to frequent dropouts. In frustration I purchased this AV Access USB extender, along with 25 feet of CAT 6 cable. The installation was simple and was truly plug and play! All of my astrophotography components, including the camera, filter wheel, guide camera, electronic focuser, and the mount were immediately recognized by my PC. I had no problems whatsoever and did not have to download any drivers. For background, I'm using Windows 7 on my PC and have had no reason to upgrade my operating system- it just works with my astrophotography gear, but your mileage may vary. I will also say that the included power adapter for the AV Access unit that I purchased was 12 v, 1.0A (I think that older units may have only been 0.5A, but I'm not sure). I suspect that the more robust power adapter (1.0A) that comes with this unit may prevent some of the connection problems others have reported in the past, but time will tell. Overall, I'm incredibly impressed with this product and will update my review after I've had a chance to test it more rigorously, especially in colder weather. I just wish that I had switched to this unit much earlier, given my frustrations with active USB extension cables.

It Works.
I needed a remote mouse for my security cameras. I added 100’ of Cat6 between the NVR and a remote monitor. When I hooked this up I found I didn’t even need the included power supply. The power from the USB on the NVR was enough to power both ends and the mouse. A great device, worth every penny invested.

Works as described!
I purchase this to use with my Line 6 POD Go guitar effects processor for switching presets from my DAW during live performances. Since my pedal board only has USB, I wanted something that could extend the USB cable long distances from the computer on the stage. I use it with a 50 ft CAT6 Ethernet cable and it works great! I do not notice any latency at all. I would recommend for audio applications as well. It's metal case is nice also and feels durable. So far, it works very well.

Working with my Midi devices
I am writing this review after only a week of use and may update if things change.I run a 40-ft length of Cat6 to connect my Midi control surfaces to my laptop on the other side of the room. My previous USB extender died after I plugged in the wrong power supply, so I replaced with this one. I have been using an Akai MPD 218, an old Akai Pro APC, and a Novation Launchkey 49 MK3. The two akai units work flawlessly and without any lag. I am able to change parameters in real time from about 20 ft away. The Launchkey, however, does not connect well, and I often have to unplug and re-plug it at either end of the run. Once I get it connected, it is good to go, but the issue is getting it to that point. Furthermore, this unit does not play nicely with some hubs. If I try to connect through my Monitor's USB hub, nothing works, but connecting to my Macbook's USB-C dock works just fine. All that said, I think this is a well-constructed and solid unit that appears to deliver plenty of power, but I suggest trusting it only in ideal circumstance of cable length, power draw, and direct connections to your main laptop/desktop.

Works as advertised
I'm using these for an astrophotography setup. It runs all of the associated equipment (camera, mount, etc.) over a 100ft ethernet cable. I haven't tried any longer cable setups, so I can only verify it works at that distance. I have not experienced any data or power issues.

Great way to extend your computer/USB needs
I have a gaming rig that I play and record off of while in my office. But I also want to play games while the wife and I are in another room and use the computer to create files for my XTool laser in the garage. This is allowing me to use the same gaming rig scattered all around my house. I can play and record my games from my office and play online MMORPG while in the other room with my wife without paying the money on a second computer (not to mention a HUGE foot print). The second unit allows me to reach from my upstairs to my garage where the laser tool is used. Between laser burns that have to be supervised I can play my same games remotely as well using this unit. I ran cat6 from the garage and up the air return duct. So you have to have a copper contact the whole way and for a longer run I would probably spend the money and get cat6, but well worth the cost and no lag.
