Works great to quickly green up and thicken lawn and feed it for several months.
Fertilizer works great and will not burn grass as long as it is heavily watered after applying.Note can be applied at much higher rate and still not burn lawn. I used 15 pounds on about 700 square feet of lawn (bag claims this amount should cover 5000 square feet). Weirdly, it is much cheaper to buy this 42 pound bag than the two 15 pound bags I bought last year. Note this is one of the few lawn fertilizers you can buy in California that contain phosphorous.

Great product for overseeding your lawn.
This is a gentle fertilizer that is perfect for new lawns. A bit on the pricey side and may be cheaper at home improvement stores, but they don't always carry the product.

Why does Scotts Fertilizer work so much better???
After twenty plus years of fertilizing our lawn and attempting to save money going to other cheaper brands, I always come back to Scotts! It kills me to pay up for Scotts! But it kills me worse to use a no name brand and watch the lawn struggle. If I had to guess, the difference is the 'carrier material' that Scotts uses, onto which they apply the fertilizing chemicals. Most fertilizers are a hard crystalline base material that seems to dissolve extremely slowly. While Scotts is a more 'clay-like' material that dissolves rather fast, getting the fertilizer to the plants faster. It's most evident when the fertilizer lands on a side walk, after a rain the Scotts will be dissolved into a big circle, while the crystalline fertilizer pellet will still be setting there. The only drawback is if you leave an opened bag of Scotts exposed to humid air, the fertilizer will absorb moisture and it WILL CLUMP UP and WILL CLOG YOUR SPREADER! Rendering it virtually useless. If you get all of the air out of the bag and seal it, you can avoid this.
