Great read!
Metallica the $24.95 Book is a well written and very approachable book. As a casual fan of Metallica, I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy this book or even if I’d finish it. But I did! Most chapters felt like really good conversations with Ben Apatoff at a dive bar expounding on the various ways in which metallica kicks ass. It was great to get some background on the members of the band. Much that was new to me may be familiar territory to folks that have followed Metallica more closely but was presented in a very engaging way.I enjoyed the biographical parts and was particularly moved by the chapter on Jason Newsted and what he brought to the band and what might have been if he had been given a better welcome. There were moments that were to exhaustive for my taste (I don’t really need to know about the lesser music videos tbh) But on the whole I really enjoyed the book and getting to know more about the band. And Apatoff was a great guide, a fan who clearly knows his metal.A great read for fans of any level. I ended buying a couple of extra copies for friends.

Heaven for all Metalllica fans
I purchased this book for my friend (and Metallica fan) while he was recovering from a stroke to give him something to help time pass He loved it and read it in one day. It has chapters of each member (including the departed Cliff Burton').,- behind-the-scenes information behind the albums, and clears up the rumors regarding the band. Recommended for any fan or as a gift to any Metallica fan. You will not regret this purchase!

a metal masterclass
You dont have to love (or even really like) Metallica to love this book. It reads like a learned disputation over a beer, not a lecture in a record store. Apatoff brings you along with him, drawing connections, making jokes, and picking fights with skill, humor, and a wall of enthusiasm. After reading it, I feel like I get James, Lars, and Kirk, plus Dave Mustaine, like 50 other bands, the metal scene in early '80s California, and more. Apatoff's approach deeply humane, and you leave with real appreciation, even for people you might otherwise not like very much.I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes metallica, or music, or history, or punchy, funny, argumentative writing. Dude knows what he's doing.
