Read if your municipality uses chloramines to treat your water
I used to own a KDF cartridge filter for chlorine removal at the shower head. We then moved to Germany, where chlorine is not used to disinfect potable water. Having returned, it was time to investigate my options again since my current water supply uses chloramines to disinfect their water, which is a different chemical than the chlorine gas some municipalities use to disinfect water supplies. KDF is ineffective against chloramines, but vitamin C is just the opposite. Call your municipality to see what they use to chlorinate your supply. If they use chlorine gas, look into a KDF filter. They're really good. Otherwise, read on. I like this filter for several reasons:This filter isn't really a filter. Rather, it introduces a small amount of ascorbic acid into your chlorinated water where a reaction occurs that neutralizes the hypochlorous acid in solution. I read an article a while back with a scientist discussing whether vitamin C shower filters were worth the investment. To him it was no contest since neither chlorine, nor vitamin C cross the skin barrier, so why use a vitamin C filter. Well, we breathe air in the shower, and that air will contain chlorine, so there goes your no pathway reasoning. Plus we all know what pool chlorine does to the body and hair in larger doses of course. And we drink the stuff too, in doses low enough not to cause problems supposedly. But I choose to remove chlorine in my shower water because it decreases eye irritation for sure, and has been shown to be kinder to hair than chlorinated water in my household. I mean, they dechlorinate water released into streams so fish don't die. We're not as sensitive, but it can't hurt to remove chlorine in any situation where it's cost effective. This unit easily attached to my existing shower wand. The water inlet connection is plastic but seems to be working fine. The bottom connection, which includes the filter replacement nut, is chrome steel. Very nice. As the water moves through the filter you can see a small cog at the bottom of the filter spin, I suppose to encourage a little vitamin C to cross the barrier from inside the filter. The filter hasn't affected the water flow in my shower wand, but my water pressure is strong. If yours isn't there may be a larger pressure loss for you.We get about 90 showers of average length out of a cartridge. We also make sure that after every shower we drain the water from the wand so that the filter runs dry. I think it helps retain more of the vitamin C, which is a powder, in the filter. It will take a while to get back the initial investment but that doesn't matter. It will work out to about a penny a shower once I start buying replacement cartridges. I'm going to be taking showers for quite a few more years.Overall this is a well-built filter that is serving me and my family well.

because i dont like the chlorine in the water and the gases expelled ...
I read the other reviews and understood the life impacts of the vitamin C. I did want to try it, because i dont like the chlorine in the water and the gases expelled to the house during a shower. With the product installed, i couldnt really tell a big difference, but my wife could. Also another user tested the water before and after to prove chlorine elimination. So it works from that perspective. To improve life of vitamin C let the filter drain after shower so vitamin C wont corrode when not in use. My connections also leak. A simple tightening or different oring should fix that. All in all a great idea if you want to remove chlorine from the water and protect your family. The mechaincs need work though. If any SONAKI people read this PDCA....make it better!

Amazing!
I waited a little while to write a review because I wanted to see how the filter performed for more than a few days.I can confidently say that this thing works. Before I started using it, my eyes would burn while in the shower, to the point of not being able to keep them open for long. I have incredibly sensitive skin and used to come out of the shower with dry patches on my face. Since the filter was installed, no dry patches - and it's winter in Michigan so that's saying a lot.As for the complaints that the cartridge doesn't last longer than a week, I'm not sure what those people are doing in the shower, but I'm still on my first cartridge after a month. If you're in a larger household and taking longer showers, you'll probably go through the filters faster, but I take fast showers (under 10 minutes), once every other day.One thing I have done that may be contributing to the longevity of the filter, is that I make sure the water has drained completely from the filter before leaving the shower, and I leave my shower hose hanging down so water doesn't run back toward the filter.Overall, this was a great purchase for me and I highly recommend it!

I can smell more bleach in my water than with other filters
I was very excited about this filter but I honestly don't know if this is working. Concerning what it does to my water... I still smell chlorine and nasty stuff, not as much but a lot more than I used to smell with my other regular shower head filters made of carbon etc. The filter is very cool and you can see it running and also when the vit C started to go down so you know how much you are using. It think if they would actually use more potent vitamin C it would be better and even improve the smell of the water. It is very pricey compared to the others and I don't think it works as well so I really think I am going to return it.

Filters didn't last!
I believe this product works! Maybe it was my imagination, but I felt cleaner after my shower. Unfortunately, the filter didn't last very long. Used for 4 showers a day at 10-15 minutes at a time, the filter ran out after about 12 days. After reading all of the reviews, I was expecting a lot longer. How people have it last longer than a month is beyond me. Looking at the mechanism, either the part that rotates is stuck on theirs, or the holes on the unit is plugged. I can't see buying that many filters. For the cost of all of the filters and the unit, it's be cheaper to install a good quality whole house filter to service the entire house.

I am not as dry when I leave the shower and I don't feel any residue from water that I used to like minerals, etc
I have sensitive skin, eczema, dry skin, and more. I have noticed a significant difference in my skin since buying this product. I am not as dry when I leave the shower and I don't feel any residue from water that I used to like minerals, etc. Our shower head has not developed as much residue on it from hard minerals in water as well. If we can do anything to reduce the amount of heavy metals or toxins in our lives than why not do it? Just like food and drinking water, trying to get the cleanest possible is so important.
