Utopia: Thomas More (Penguin Pocket Hardbacks)

A tough but enjoyable read,
Having been tasked with this read for university, I was much looking forward to reading it without any prior knowledge about the text itself. The text has brought to mind just how little the human race has changed in the last 500 years, and it is astonishing to see the ideals that today's society "value" challenged by someone 5 centuries ago.

Amazing
Was required reading for my University syllabus. Definitely one of my favourite reads of all time. Brilliant book, would recommend.

Worthy piece of work from a unique individual
Timeless classic, More”s dry wit is something of an acquired taste. In the centuries since its release theologians, philosophers, political theorists, economists and revolutionaries havve taken turns to praise or condemn it. Make your own mind up

Utopia
I found it boring and very uninteresting. I never got anywhere near to finishing it. Utopia - a classic book

a true classic
I consider "Utopia" a forerunner of "Gullivers Travels". "Utopia" is a satire. The book is very well written; the story very well told.

I love this More classic but if you shop Kindle beware of the edition. I can't believe they did this again but see the following:H. M. DISCOURSES OF RAPHAEL HYTHLODAY, OF THE BEST STATE OF A COMMONWEALTH Henry VIII., the unconquered King of England, a prince decorated with all of the virtues that emerge as a first-rate monarch, having some variations of no small effect with Charles the maximum serene Prince of Castile, despatched me into Flanders, as his ambassador, for treating and composing matters among them. I changed into colleague and partner to that incomparable man Cuthbert Tonstal, whom the King, with such everyday applause, currently made Master of the Rolls; however of whom I will say not anything; no longer because I fear that the testimony of a pal will be suspected…More, Saint Thomas . Utopia (p. 5). Kindle Edition. The most invincible Henry, King of England and eighth of that name, a prince richly endowed with all the qualities of an outstanding ruler, recently had a dispute with Charles, the most serene Prince of Castile, over matters that were far from trifling,1 and sent me as ambassador to Flanders to discuss and resolve them. I was to accompany and assist that exceptional man Cuthbert Tunstall,2 whom the King, to general acclaim, has recently appointed Master of the Rolls. I’ll say nothing in praise of him, not because I’m afraid that the testimony of a friend will carry little weight,More, Thomas. Utopia (Penguin Classics) . Penguin Books Ltd. Kindle Edition
