For years I have used this as a primary test ...
For years I have used this as a primary test in my university course Mind and Body because the authors address kinesthetic experience not only as worthy of serious attention on their own right but also because they do so through such varied lenses as Aristotle, Sartre, Hume, and James.

Martial Arts for the Mind
This is an important book, not only because it is unique, but because it's sowell done. The subtitle "Beating and Nothingness" suggests, correctly, that there is wit as wellwithin these pages. The word "philosophy" scares many readers off, but it shouldn't in this book. It shows howintegral philosophy is to everything we do...including martial arts. There is not merely a bookfor aspiring black belts. It's for any thoughtful person who would like to know more about him or herself.David LebedoffMinneapolis, MN USA

Fan of philosophy
I am a fan of these books. I like a lot of the essays and how they show the influence of both popular culture, as well as the many philosophical studies that can be seen in it. You learn to think about certain things, in a different way.

Awesome read -- entertaining, with serious ideas
This book was well coordinated. Entertaining writing style (every author has their own) and attractive ideas. The writing is accessible for a general audience and students like myself who want to learn more about the philosophy that runs with the martial arts. The short biographies are hilarious. The essays read like a mix of academic papers and personal statements, with many anecdotes to illustrate points.

Great Value and Quality
Although I have not had the chance to read this book yet, it seems to be in good quality. This book is a requirement for a college class I am taking at a liberal arts school; we haven't started the section with this book yet. However, I am glad I was able to get it for such a great value! Thank you!

Five Stars
I bought this book for my daughter's college education. She is using it now and did not complain anything.

They think there is only one.
The minds and souls of everyone in the world are connected in some way or another. Easy simplification of the universe. Two worlds to every black hole.

Some interest but largely disappointing
Some interesting articles, but generally meandering and not particularly insightful essays by writers who don't display any particularly depth or breadth of knowledge about either martial arts or philosophy.

Muy bueno
No he podido avanzar mucho con la lectura de este libro. Sin embargo, hasta ahora, me parece muy interesante. Graham Priest en particular es uno de esos personajes que explican todo con una claridad envidiable.
