Stephen Joseph Kids' Umbrella

This adorable, functional umbrella was a massive hit with my 3 year old grandson. He could not contain his excitement when I gave it to him. I was concerned it might not be safe for a child who just turned 3 but I think it is perfect for children three and older. The ends of the spines have large round balls so he can't hurt/poke himself or someone else and the opening and closing mechanism seems to be completely "pinch proof." There are several different styles and colors but he is fascinated with fire engines and firemen so this is perfect!

Absolutely adorable. Right size for child. Well made and easy open and close. Would purchase again.

I bought this umbrella for my darling 2 1/2 year old friend because he very reluctantly relinquished his Daddy’s umbrella. The child loves the umbrella so much he wants to use it always, even when not raining. It is almost a problem. Of course, he loves the fire trucks, he loves all trucks and construction vehicles. As to sturdiness - who knows? Is anything toddler-proof? We just got it a week ago. But it looks like the photo and is toddler size.

I purchased the Stephen Joseph umbrella in the owl design after purchasing the matching rainjacket and rainboots. The entire ensemble is just too darn cute! What I had not noticed about the umbrella but was pleasantly surprised to discover is that there are rubber 'tips' on the umbrella spines (?) so as to prevent any serious eye injury from inadvertently poking oneself in the eye. The umbrella 'glides' open smoothly and easily, and our three year old granddaughter has no problem in operating it. The umbrella alone is a great purchase, but the entire ensemble is to die for. I love shopping Amazon.com and leaving feedback, hoping that my comments will be found useful by other shoppers. I depend on the feedback on this site before making many purchases, and believe that leaving honest feedback about a product is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.

I bought the Stephen Joseph Watermelon Umbrella (and the Butterfly one, under a separate listing) from Amazon and am pretty pleased. They are bright and colorful, sized correctly for a three year-old, and durable enough to survive moderate use. These are replacements for toddler sized umbrellas from another brand (I can't remember which, they make matching raincoats) that broke after one use. The previous umbrellas were vinyl, glued to the thin aluminum spokes. When the spokes were stressed the vinyl tore immediately and the spokes were stressed as soon as any weight was put on the sides of the umbrella. This umbrella by Stephen Joseph is built more like an adult's umbrella with safety features for a child. The tip is protected by a plastic ball (I had to re-glue one of them, but it was pretty easy),and the spokes are also protected by sturdy plastic tips. The open/close mechanism is buttonless and easy to engage just by pushing up the center along the shaft. The waterproof nylon material is hooked to the spokes with little thread loops. The kids play with it around the house while it's closed; using it as a cane or a big stick or a hook. It's survived this so far, but I've cautioned them every time I see them playing with it. I think these are built in a reasonable fashion for kids and with very nice designs. I'd definitely purchase these again until the girl's outgrow them.

I ordered this umbrella for the sheer purpose of using it as an Easter Basket for my 2.5 yr old. It served its purpose well, and was very cute. Now my toddler runs through the house with this little umbrella and "Hides from the rain". He LOVES it! Worth every single dollar. He is pretty rough on things, he constantly opens and closes it. It has yet to pinch his little fingers, and still glides well. There are no sharp edges or points, and it seems to be holding up well, as far as not ripping or bending with his roughness. I really recommend this cute little umbrella for your little loves!

My four year old granddaughter wanted an umbrella for her birthday. I selected the Stephen Joseph Watermelon design, after viewing and reading reviews of many umbrella's. This one had good reviews and I liked the design. It arrived promptly, was packed well, and was just what I anticipated. It was well made, had plastic protected points on the ribs, easy to open and close, and seemed sturdy (at least for an umbrella). With three other siblings in the household I expect it will get lots of use and some abuse, as well. So far it has held up well.

My kid loves the umbrella and so does his sibling! I can't keep this away from them. The two of them have used it for 48 hours straight (almost) and it hasn't broken, yet! The umbrella is small, just right for a 2-6 year old and is easily opened/closed manually. The colors are vibrant and true to the picture on Amazon. The umbrella has a red hook on the bottom which is big fun for the little guy. He uses it as a walking stick, too! There is a little, hard plastic loop for one of those umbrella loops to go through (the one you might use to hang it up somewhere) but the umbrella didn't come with anything. I think I might have to buy another umbrella for the older kid!

This is a great little brolly for my three yr old (nearly 4yr old) its easy to put up and down, not to heavy for little hands and the appropriate size for a small person. We chose it as we are familiar with the brand and not disappointed with the quality.

I bought this for my granddaughter for her birthday and she absolutely loved it. She was five and put it up and down with ease. It was a perfect gift for her.
