Still out for review
Had this engine for two weeks. Used to replace an engine on a homeowner chipper. Seems to run ok. The only thing notable it seems to be exceptionally loud when starting and stopping, as if there’s something loose internally. 👍 after exceptional support from Bilt Hard the issue of noise has been eliminated. I have changed my review to 5 Stars. The company continued to provide support until I was satisfied with the performance of the engine

works and runs great
Solid Motor – Starts Easy, Runs GreatInstalled this motor on a leaf vac. It started right up on the second pull and has been running smooth ever since. Performance is exactly what I expected—plenty of power, no issues. One thing to note: the original motor had a 1-inch shaft, but this new one has a 3/4-inch shaft. It worked out fine, but I’d recommend they include or at least suggest an adapter in the "frequently bought together" section to make the swap easier for others.Ran it for a good while using about half a tank while sucking up leaves—worked great.

Rather this than going to harbor freight
Runs good out of the box, used sae 30 conventional, couple of slow pulls to get it coated and she's good to goMuch nicer looking than other 212s and seems to be compatible with the modifications available for other brands. Price was good, delivery was quick and much less of a headache than waiting for restocks

Set up not friendly
Pros: Good Price; Runs wellCons: Battery not included; Oil not included; bolts&nuts to secure engine on the chassis not included; bolt set to secure pulley on the shaft not included. THE WORSE AND MOST RIDICULOUS: cable to connect battery and engine not included The customer needs to figure out how to install. When one add the cost of all extras and labor required, it gets close to the price of well known and reputable brands.

Awesome replacement engine
It's a great engine. I had a different brand engine on this tiller that had extremely low service hours on it but I failed to take adequate precautions and allowed the carburator to totally rust up. Ordered this last March and didn't actually get around to installing it until last fall. Just left it setting inside the shed with no gas. Broke it out above 3 weeks ago and actually had to use old gas in it because of time constraints. It fired and ran just fine with the old gas. Got back down there this past Sunday with new non ethanol gas with a fuel treatment added. Fired right up on the first pull. It's got a ton of power so I'm keeping it pretty low throttle and no strain whatsoever. Tremendously pleased with this engine

Engine not safe
This Engine is a piece of crap and dangerous. Could possibly explode if not careful. I forgot to turn off the gas supply and the engine filled with gas. Both the cylinder and crankcase. You should not be able to walk away for a few minutes and gas continue to flow into the engine.I would not recommend this engine to anyone. I thought about adding a fuel solenoid, but the ignition system key does not have a 12 volt output when in the on position, only start and stop.Wish I could get my money back but I had to modify the engine to fit it to my 1974 Craftsman garden tractor.

The little engine that could!
So, I just bought a second one of these engines. I waited until I had an entire season of mowing on the first one before I wrote a review. I can now say it starts and runs just as good as it did 7 months ago.I have an old MTD Professional push mower with a stainless steel deck and after 25 years the original Honda engine was done. I couldn't imagine tossing the shiny old MTD. That stainless deck is worth more than an entire new mower, so I gambled on one of these Bilt-Hard engines. I read enough other reviews to have a new ⅞" blade adapter, throttle cable, and tap set ready. Properly prepared, the motor swap took less than an hour and it started on the first pull. The fuel economy and power are impressive. I have ⅓ acre and can usually mow it twice on a tank of gas with the engine barely at half throttle. This is the first time I've been able to mow the denser parts of my lawn with any mower without it stalling or bogging down. The second engine I installed on an old self-propelled mower. That took marginally longer, but the second one also started on the first pull and at full throttle and I have to run to keep up with it. This 4.4hp engine feels much stronger than the nameplate suggests. My self-propelled mower had a 7hp engine and there isn't the slightest indication that the mower is underpowered with the 4.4hp.I have two bits of advice for anyone buying one of these. First, and this is good advice for any new small engine. Change the oil after each of the first 2 or three runs, I did find some small debris in the oil after the first change. Second is that this engine needs the blade brake and ignition shutdown lever fully engaged. If your cable is old and stretched, you might find it stalling out or hard to start. The cables on both of my mowers needed adjustment.
