good material
It's a good book for new administrators. I have a ton of experience but had to take this class. i learned about 1 thing per chapter. Like wmic or item-level targeting. Which is something I might see if I worked at a different company.

Not so great
This book was required for my Enterprise Virtualization class. I used it maybe twice all semester. It is really not very helpful. A past student brought an older required book (I wish I'd have gotten the name) that was MUCH more helpful than this one. I just don't think it was a necessary purchase. I could find better information by using Google than this book.

Over all, the book condition is good. Some markers inside, no hand writing.

Great book for the 70-411
I got this book when I failed to pass the 70-411 test. The content of this book and the exercises helped me to get more hands-on in Windows 2012 and pass the test. But the content doesn't end there, I will keep this book handy for implementing solutions.

Poor printing, ink too light, can barely read let alone make out the screenshots.
Same issue with Mitch Tulloch book, the printing is horrible! Screenshots are unreadable and some of the text as well. This book is defective from a printing perspective. I have never received a book like this from Amazon, extremely disappointed.

Taste it slowly to learn it deeper
The very first word of this title gives the real idea of the scope of this book: training. If you are looking for a way to put into practice what you've learned across pages and pages of concepts and labyrinthine abstractions, you can find here dozens of practical exercises and real world situations. On my opinion, the major benefit of the practical approach is that you can get an immediate sense of how to apply the theory and its effective reflections on a day-by-day job experience. This book is not an exam guide. If you are preparing the 70-411 Microsoft Exam, you'd better choose other e-books to integrate this one with more consistent objectives. This book covers the majority of the 70-411 aspects, but "the idea behind this book is that by reading it, you can learn how to perform tasks you may need to perform on a day-by-day basis in your role as a Windows Server 2012 administrator".In other words, what you will learn accomplishing the exercises of this book is probably more of what you will be able to do after successfully passing the 70-411, but paradoxically it could be not enough to pass the exam.As just said, this is a training book with practical exercises, so just after a few pages the reader is required to stop and take the time to set a virtual machine, then download, install and perform a basic configuration of a 180 days trial copy of Windows Server 2012.Only with all this stuff in place, he can start working at the tasks described.A reader who must take an exam won't probably have time for that. This book is divided into 10 chapters and each chapter into lessons. The most positive impression that this book gives is that it faces the problems by directly approaching them.Compared to other books about Administering Windows Server 2008, I found here many useful objectives elsewhere ignored. For example, about configuring and deploying Windows 2012 Server images or about generating reports with the file server role. What really lacks in this book is a perspective dedicated to the PowerShell.PS plays an important role in Microsoft 2012 Server, but the exercises take into consideration only the GUI method.Despite this, I would definitely recommend this book. This is one of the most interesting e-books I have ever read.Disclaimer: I received a free electronic copy of this book as part of the O'Reilly Blogger Program
