Easy to control. Cuts quickly and evenly
I have several acoustic, electric and bass guitars so I opted to buy the full set of files. This came with every size of nut file that I need to maintain and set up and service all of my guitars. The handles are well made, and make these files really easy to control, cutting slots quickly and accurately. Just keep the files straight and go slowly and you will be fine. The diamond cut abrasive on the files keep these razor sharp and working like a dream. They came with a nice carrying case to keep things organized and include a brush to keep your files clean. These are not cheap but if you build or maintain your instruments this a great value compared to the other guy's diamond cut nut files which are significantly more expensive.

Work well.
Files are a bit aggressive but work well on bone, metal plastic nuts alike.

Amazing set of tools that's far better than the cheap stuff
Often with luthier tools, you can get the cheaper stuff that still does the job just fine. It might be a bit less ergonomic to use, or won't last as long, but it'll work. But I have found with nut files, you really don't want to use the cheap stuff because they are a real chore to use. I debated for years whether to spend big and buy this set, and while it's very expensive, it's worth it. I now cut and refine nut slots using a fraction of the time it used to take me using the cheap crap. The files are sharp, effective, and far more ergonomic than the stuff I was using before. With this set, I can do everything from standard 6-string guitars to baritones, 8-string, to 4, 5, and 6-string basses.

Very Impressed
I had been looking at getting a set of nut files for quite some time. I actually ordered the light gauge kit and a bass kit before I noticed this full kit. Luckily they had not shipped and I was able to cancel and get this one. Even though the actual file portion is smaller than some of the other manufacturers, the diamond edge makes quick work of setting proper nut height. The only caution is because they are diamond coated, they cut very quickly.I've cleaned up probably a dozen guitars or so since I got these. I cannot tell how well they will hold up over the years, but I've been very impressed with them up to this point.Compared to some other manufacturers these are a steal. However, if you're only planning on taking care of your own guitars and little to no bass guitars, a standard six file kit will save you some money and if you need additional sizes they are available individually for what I consider a very reasonable price.

The nut is one of the most critical parts of a guitar.
I do not write many reviews, but I am in the progress of finishing another project and building the nut. That prompted the review. I started building guitars about 6 months ago, and in that time a have completed 17 guitars. As a tool nut (see what I did there), I am always on the lookout to find something that will make life easier, because after all, we NEED lots of tools. Anyway, I tried many different nut files, some ok, some terrible. Well most were terrible. Then I stumbled across these. Yea, the price made me swallow hard but after using them on 8 or 10 nuts I would not want to make a nut without them. Just ideal. If you are making axes or working on axes, whether you make the nut or just need to file tweak the grooves, you need these files.

Fine Set of Files
Well-made set. There may be other files that are cheaper or workable in smaller sets for a professional, but this set is good for those of us with less mechanical leanings who want to grab and go. The case works, but it is spongy in a way that suggests wear and tear would not pair up well with it.

Go Easy....
I do a lot of my own guitar work. I've had a set of inexpensive nut files for years. I finally took the plunge on this set. They are well-made, accurate, and *fast*. The only problem I've encountered is that it is easy to remove too much material, so take it slow when you use them. I've already ruined a couple of nuts, but this is *not* the fault of the tool; it's just that easy to cut with them, which is why I titled this review "Go Easy."
