Love or hate will depend on what you need it for
Let me start by saying I love my DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo. Before diving into the purchase, I did my homework to ensure it suited my needs, and I'm glad I did. While the design has its flaws, like not being super rugged and the second screen not being waterproof, understanding these limitations and using the correct parts has made all the difference. One issue I've noticed is heating, but since I stick to shooting at 4K 30 frames per second or lower, it hasn't been a problem for me. Most of my filming happens underwater, and for that, the waterproof case has been a must. When diving, I make sure to use the waterproof case, but for snorkeling, I opt for just the camera part without the second screen or waterproof case to keep things streamlined. The microphone quality is top-notch, and the size factor is unbeatable. However, there's a crucial tip I've learned for underwater use without the waterproof case. Before connecting it to the second screen/battery to transfer files to the SD card, ensure you remove the case from the magnetic protective casing and dry the area around the pins thoroughly. Otherwise, any water trapped between the magnetic case and the camera could lead to corrosion when attached to the second part of the camera. Despite these considerations, I'm overall very happy with my DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo. It's compact, versatile, and has significantly improved my underwater videography experience. With a bit of caution and proper maintenance, it's a fantastic tool.

Compact, Versatile, and Packed with Features — But Handle With Care!
The DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo is a powerhouse of an action camera, especially if you’re after high-quality footage in a tiny package. The 4K video recording is crisp and vibrant, and the 155° wide-angle lens captures more of the scene, making it ideal for action-packed adventures and vlogging. The dual OLED touchscreens are a fantastic feature — bright, responsive, and perfect for framing your shots or switching settings on the go, whether you’re behind or in front of the camera. The magnetic attachments are clever and make mounting the camera a breeze — no more fiddling with complicated mounts while missing the moment. The stabilization technology works brilliantly too, smoothing out the bumps and shakes even if you’re filming while cycling or running. However, without the magnetic protective case, the camera feels a bit vulnerable, especially in rough conditions or when shooting underwater. The build is sturdy, but if you’re planning to take it on rugged adventures or underwater (it’s waterproof up to 10m), you might want to invest in the case for extra peace of mind. Overall, the DJI Action 2 is an excellent choice for anyone wanting a compact, feature-rich action camera. Just be ready to baby it a bit without that added protective layer — it’s small but mighty, and worth keeping in top condition!

OVERHEATS !
Great build, it's almost too nice to be an action cam, more like a mobile phone quality build id be concerned that the metal body paint would damage if used hard. My issue is overheating. 5 mins of record time is useless for some of the sporting events i do. Nothing worse than wanting to watch back my 20 mins of onboard karting to find i only got 5 mins of footage. I also do lots of water sports, but to get the Action 2 to last a little longer with the heat issue i need to run it with the front facing camera which isn't waterproof. You can get a DJI waterproof case for the camera and screen module but can imagine that would only make the heating issue worse, possibly giving you even less than the already poor 5 mins record time. I have a GoPro Hero 10 and i got this as a possible replacement. The GoPro Hero 10 isn't perfect but of the two it beats the Action 2 Hands down for practicality and useability. My suggestion: Don't buy it now and wait to see if DJI release firmware that can possible fix the heating issue. I wont be waiting for that as there's no guarantee a fix will come and I'm still within the window with Amazon for a return.....and that's what i will be doing. I could possible buy again in the future if the problems get fixed (and by this time it will probably be cheaper then the current RRP of £455), but this item was rushed to market way too soon. it's just not ready !

Fantastic if you accept its shortcomings but embrace its positives
My first action camera Positives: Image quality Field of view Build quality Sexiness! Quick removal from mounting - clip/magnetic mechanism easier than thumb screws Sound quality even without an external microphone Negatives (for me) Did overheat when testing it out indoors, not done that since firmware updates and not getting any overheating. I’ve turned the screen timeout lower and auto shutoff to help in this regard, if I use it in the van (sometimes capture nice views when driving) Price - not cheap is it… think it should be about £100 less tbh I would be more comfortable with that I’m on-replaceable batteries. Not a fan of that idea at all, that said I am used to it with phones these days… Limited internal storage, although I’m tending to use it with the screen module attached so not really an issue for me. Note I’ve not used it in wet conditions Horizon steady is truly remarkable, but not a feature that I need, but if you do then it seems to be the best one out there bar none? (Or can you get it with the max lens mod on go pro, you would have to check). Ideally the main unit would be able to take an SD card or at least have enough memory to run the lifetime of the battery in the topmost resolution. 64 or 128GB it should be (or sell some sort of small attachment that allows it without the full screen/battery module Overall for my use, the clip on clip off system works really well for me. There I guess may be add-one for other action cameras that allow that but I haven’t looked. Image quality is first class except not for night footage particularly, although you can fix the ISO and shutter speeds *I think* in pro mode to help that, sure I saw a YouTube video on it. I use my iPhone 11 Pro Max when it gets darker - for what I need it’s the better choice.needs a bigger aperture like the DJI pocket 2 to make me choose to use it. Other negative no replaceable lens but I’m a light user so for me it’s fine, and I have DJI refresh which was about £30, just in case (2/3 replacements with a relatively small payment in the event of needing one) Will be looking at the tilta cases when they come out. Have the small rig one currently which gives me some peace of mind and includes a neat bag to store it Hope that helps Definite room to make it the ultimate action camera for sure…

Excellent tiny camera.
The Action 2 had a very rough time on its release and received a lot of bad press. Although, I suspect a lot of the negativity was by people who didn't really understand the camera. The camera is brilliant for spare of the moment shots and also for having a bare minimum setup for capturing good video and in some instances when you can expose manually, excellent video for such a small camera. I use mine without the extra module, so just the camera module and plug in the battery module just to charge the main camera module when needed. This means I can have the smallest, highest quality camera for taking spare of the moment shots. With just the camera module on its own, which has about 22GB of built in storage. I can get about 30 minutes of 25FPS 4K/UHD video recording and about 35 minutes of battery before needing to recharge with the battery module. If shooting in 1080, then you are getting more recording time and battery time. The built in microphone for the camera module is excellent for an inbuilt mic. It is easily better quality than the Hero 11, which I also have, and is great for vlogging. Indeed, while the Action 2 can have an external mic attached to it via the USB C port on the second camera module and battery module. For recording vlogging stuff or where the sound your recording is close by, I've found there to be no need for an external mic. Which keeps an Action 2 vlogging setup super small and mega convenient. With the release of the Action 3 there has been a fairly substantial reduction in the price of the Action2. Which makes the Action 2 at its new price, an absolute bargain for anyone looking for a tiny, high quality video camera. Just remember that while this camera is sold as an action camera, as its name suggests. It has many great uses for a lot of scenarios where you need a small camera. I would 100% recommend the Action, especially at its new price.

Dji action 2, 4k overheating
4k overheating, it can only work for about 3mins, this test is in new latest firmware on 12 Nov 2021, so for £450, 3 mins 4k video, no, I have to return this faulty product, but I will buy dji again next year if they improve it. my original review before 4k test: it is so fun to play with this little camera, the cute modular design is genius. it very warm, I have not tried 4k yet, but happy with 1080p. It can be webcam for the computer as well. love it.

Modular design that doesn't work in practice
I was a huge fan of the little GoPro Session cameras I was keen to give the unusual modular design of the DJI Osmo Action 2 a go thinking I could get the small, light design when needed for use on a helmet or similar then have the option for the additional module for additional power. In practice though it's a frustrating camera to use and it doesn't really work in either of its configurations. On its own the Action 2 is a conveniently small particularly for mounting on a helmet and it's waterproof however it's very limited by its short battery life and it can only record to its small 20GB onboard storage. There's no ports either so the module can't be charged or data transferred either. Adding the touchscreen module gives you proper SD card storage, a USB-C port, more battery and an additional front facing screen. However the modules are not waterproof and while I did know this before I bought the camera, I didn't realise how vulnerable the design would be with both the USB-C port and SD card fully exposed with no protection at all so even on dry days I don't trust using the module on the bike in case water or mud are thrown up by the tyres and damage the module. Also when the two modules are combined it makes for an odd vertical format which I don't find works as a helmet camera as it sticks up quite a bit from the helmet, if it clipped together into a horizontal design like the Insta camera does it would be much more useful. The camera is known for its overheating problems but it's not been an issue riding outdoors in Scotland although I generally use the camera module on its own and the short batterylife and limited storage significantly limit its use anyway. The lack of usability of the camera means the video quality doesn't really matter since I end up not using the camera. The camera itself feels very solid and it's been reliable plus the magnetic mount system is fantastic, the mount system uses the usual GoPro interface on one side and a magnetic section with two clips on the other. So to attach the camera you simply guide it into position and the magnets pull the camera into position and clip it in then to release the camera you simply squeeze the clips and remove it so I can easily remove the camera from my helmet and reattach it without even removing the helmet. It's great DJI have continued the system with the Osmo Action 3 and both cameras can use the same mount. It's frustrating as there is a lot DJI have managed to get right with the Osmo Action 2 and I think if they'd gone for a more Session type design giving the camera its own SD card slot and USB-C port and swapped the large screen for a small, simple power efficient one with a bit better batterylife it would have been a really handy little device. As it stands though I feel it's time to give up on it, I was riding with the Osmo Action 2 on the helmet and the Osmo Action 3 on my chest with the Osmo Action 2 barely lasting a few trail sections before warning of low battery while the Action 3 easily kept on going. I find the Osmo Action 3 just a bit too heavy for use on the helmet otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another.
