Life Skills Activities for Secondary Students With Special Needs Review: Perfect for high school transition teachers! - This book is amazing! I teach a transition class for 12th graders who have a mild/ moderate learning disability and there are so many lessons included in this book that I can use. Each lesson has an objective, activity (worksheets), discussion, suggestions for extension activities, and evaluation questions (perfect for exit tickets). There are multiple categories such as self awareness, communication, budgeting, etc. The lessons aren't too difficult which will help to make my students feel confident about completing it, and not too easy so they won't feel like they're doing "baby work." I'm so excited to start implementing these lessons this school year! Review: Great For Troubled Kids! - Its on what seems to be a 3rd grade reading level, but helps students gain confidence. I teach a life skills class in an middle school in Brooklyn and was told that the entire curriculum is in this book. The school gave me the 5 most troubled kids in the school and it turned out to be a great tool. The books gives great ideas for lessons and activities, along with a daily worksheet. The work is highly manageable for middle school students and they end up working through the worksheet with confidence. I highly recommend this book to anyone teaching this type of course.

Perfect for a teen with Aspergers
Love this book! Lots of wonderful topics each day that really get him thinking. Questions are easy, so he doesn't mind doing this each day. It helps as a parent to have the topics outlined and situational examples in the book. We just finished the section on reputation, and I'm not sure I would have thought to talk with him about that preemptivly. If you are currently homeschooling your teen/pre-teen, this is a valuable part of our day!

Person it was bought for enjoyed it, and understood majority of content
Well done book for students with special needs, short worksheets that cover all life skills. Very well worth the money invested. Person it was bought for enjoyed it, and understood majority of content, (functions at 10 yr old level). The life skills it covers I believe he learned and fully understood. We worked in it about fifteen minutes a day during the school week after school. Would highly recommend.

I got a lot of good ideas from these books
I got a lot of good ideas from these books, though, in some cases, I was forced to upscale them for a high school audience. I felt like the art and the way things are said were appealing for a younger crowd. But the ideas are definitely those that would benefit high school age students. So the books feel a little imbalanced in this way.

Very useful for my 17 year old
I bought this on the recommendation of a special needs influencer for my 17 year old son with special needs. He loves doing his daily lesson and we usually end up having a good discussion about the lesson. He’s dyslexia and has cognitive delays, and is two grades behind his peer group. I hope this information helps anyone considering purchasing it. We’re trying to get him to an equivalency exam. This book is rounding out the end of his education at home.

Wonderful for Adults, too!
My daughter suffered a brain injury that took most of her skills, including reading, writing. When the time came when we were fortunate enough to be able to begin teaching her, with each step forward came a new challenge for us...those who were teaching her! We were lucky to find many, many resources online. Then we took to being able to purchase these instruction books on Amazon. The set of activity books are really wonderful. These are written with children in mind, but, we found them to be considerably helpful in our situation. I do hope that others, with teens or adults that may benefit from this series, does not dismiss them because it states for children with special needs. Many may benefit, as well.

This was purchased for my daughter teaching in a school in Australia. She was struggling to find appropriate resources for her class. The head of Spec. Ed. at the high school I work at recommended the Darlene Mannix series. I received a call from my daughter thanking me for such an invaluable resource!!! She references it daily and has made teaching this class much better.

Love this!!! I work in an ASD provision and plan life skills lessons often for children in years 5-8. This book is SO helpful. It is American so there is some translation needed but in a world where we are so familiar with Americanisms the children don't seem to find that an issue. The lessons don't always take an hour but they cover so many aspects of life and are a great start to planning a lesson. Many of the lessons could also be adapted for younger children. This book gets used a lot and is a good investment.

Love this book as my learning disabled and ASD daughter was unable to complete her education after the age of 15. Many lessons are still relevant at 27I find it very useful as it delivers lesson plans step by step. Some things need adapting as it is for a US audience and also the sentences need shortening for her level of understanding. Otherwise, excellent.
