BAD REVIEWS ARE FROM PEOPLE THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS FITTING IS FOR
Please disregard the negative reviews regarding this item not fitting or threads being wrong. Those reviews were left by people that do not understand what this fitting is for. This is a union fitting to allow you to connect to a 5/16 outer diameter (0.3125" or 8mm) metal tube. You slide the nut onto the tube. Then you slide the smaller ferrule onto the tube. Then you slide the bigger, cone-shaped ferrule onto the tube. Then you push the tube into the fitting. Then you slide the nut down the tube and begin tightening it onto the fitting. The tightening process will wedge the ferrules together - and crimp them like crazy onto the tube. You can then assemble or disassemble the joint as often as you like. Be aware the ferrules will be permanently crimped onto the tube - and the nut won't be able to be removed from the tube.Do not use on plastic or teflon tubing. This is for steel/stainless/aluminum tubing only. I suppose it would probably work on copper, but these fittings rely on your tubing being nice and round - and stiff enough to take the crimping process. They work great and can handle tens of thousands of psi of pressure.

Threads
The threads did not match the threads on compression fittings on braided stainless steel hoses

Threads don't match
The threads of the nut do not match threads of nuts that have to mate with this. It might work on steel tubing but won't work with sink lines. Description should say that. Sending it back.

Threading doesn't match normal 1/4" flare fittings.
Can confirm what others have written, the threads on this item will not mate with other "normal" 1/4" flare fittings. If it's a new install, you'll be fine. If you try to mate it with an existing installation, you'll not have any luck.

very good fittings.
Did all of the brake lines on my '96 S10 in stainless. 316 front & rear, 304 front to back in 1/4". These compression fitting sealed without having to anneal the ends to make them softer. Very good fittings :).

Best price
I used it with stainless steel soldering to make a distillation device

Does not fit
Looks like I'm not the only one. This does not fit 3/8" sink in-lines.

MacGyver fix
I bought this to fix my wife's fuel line. Not sure if it was made for that, but it's held together for 4 months so far and no leaks.
