Humming birds love it. Easy to mix

I've been using a different clear product that ranks very high on Amazon that comes in a 64 ounce size. I was satisfied with it UNTIL I got this stuff. I was driven by the lack of "preservatives" in this product which are present in the other product as well as the significantly lower price and decided to try it. (A side note: Read the ingredients in other products. Even products that claim to be "natural" may have chemicals that are not food for hummingbirds.) Well, the only creatures happier than me that I decided to try it are the hummingbirds. With the other product they would show up, take a sip, maybe more than a sip, and leave. I assumed they liked it, but I now realize not so much. But wth this CHEAPER nectar that mixes very quickly in room temperature water (purified if at all possible), the hummingbirds show up MUCH more frequently and ALWAYS drink their fill (not sipping or quick drinks). In fact, they've started fighting over it at times as multiple hummers arrive simultaneously, or they sometimes just sit perch there a while unlike before. In just one day the change was very significant. I removed a fresh batch (just 1 day old) of the other nectar, replaced it with this, and suddenly the birds that had seemed infrequent and scarce were showing up every 10 or 15 minutes, which is very often given that there are few hummingbirds in my area. Actually, I think they show up more since while watching I witnessed 6 hummers within a 15 minute period. That never happened with the previous product I used. There is no doubt that hummingbirds prefer this. VERY significant change.

The powdered nectar is easy to use, just mixing with water. The hummingbirds seem to like it.

If you are frugal, just buy regular sugar for a few bucks a bag. Its nice that sucrose is closer to nectar.

Great product as there is no dye in the food which I prefer. Good volume of product for the price. My hummingbirds love it!

I put up our new feeder yesterday, and within hours we had 3-5 hummers visiting. Today, they were back almost the whole day long. And a month later, we're refilling the feeder (10 ounces) every two days! This nectar is affordable ... I think. I haven't worked out what a plain sugar and water solution would cost which is what I used to use in our old feeder. Now that the 5 pound bag of sugar has been replaced by a 4 pound (have you noticed?), this may well be a good value. But it's worth every penny to watch 12 hours of hummingbird antics around the feeder. I do wish that Songbird Essentials would have put the measurements with their scoop for a 10 ounce feeder. I never learned metrics, and I'm not a math whiz, but when my wife couldn't figure out that it was 1.75 measures for 10 ounces, I decided to note it here. The container gives examples of 8, 12, and 16 ounce, and here we are 1ith 10. Eight years of college down the drain. P.S. I just ordered two more. Feb. 16, 2012: We've had no winter this year and for some reason, the hummers disappeared in early January. If this happens to you, don't take down the feeder. If not in the sun and relatively cool, you can safely leave the "nectar" in the feeder for a week but check it every two days to be sure. And now the hummers are back in full force. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't mate early this year. If so, they'll need all the food they can find. The three males that were fighting this morning certainly needed a good lunch when they were done. Sept. 7, 2013: After a slow summer, we again have 10 or so hummers that alternately visit the three feeders every 10-15 minutes from sunrise until it's almost too dark to see them. They also love the three fuschia we planted which ultimately brings even more birds to the feeders. April 1, 2014: I've continued to order Songbird Essentials, and the hummers continue to love it. It's mating season here, and males are fighting off other males as they stake their claims to our three feeders. I only see females once or twice a day. A note to those with feeders: As the weather gets warmer (83 today and in No. California!), unless the hummers drain the feeders, this nectar will get mold and other spores faster than in cold weather. It's expensive, but you have to throw out the old, thoroughly clean the feeders, and refill them ... probably once or twice a week. It comes with the territory, but I wouldn't trade the "show" for anything.

I love everything about this hummer mix...packaging, measuring scoop, mix rates clear and concise, ease of mixing with just warm water, size of container for the price and it has no dyes. I honestly believe the birds prefer it too because I started this season with some pre-mix from a different vendor and the birds would go from port to port in my feeders and only spend a second at each. After I put this product in they came to one port, drank for 10/15 seconds, and left. It has to be more than a coincidence.

Our hummingbirds love this! We use it every year.
