Outside the Box: Hexagon Patterns from The Kansas City Star

This book is truly what the title says of "Outside the Box". Often quilt products are perceived in terms of squares or circles. This book focuses on hexagon quilts. And the hexagons are not the traditional Grandmother's flower garden. There are other designs that are incorporated with the hexagons so that there becomes a variety of designs. The patterns have been re-drafted to be more contemporary. The original patterns are all directly from The Kansas City Star.Edie McGinis does a great job of making the old become new again in this book. It is always wonderful to see and work with the old blocks.

I waited a long time trying to find this book, since it was out of print and most of them I could find were extremely overpriced. When I finally found a used book at a great price, I was thrilled. After looking through the book when it arrived, I felt it was worth the wait and worth every penny. I favor stars and hexagons in quilts and since I am fairly new to quilting, I found this a great resource that I could understand and patterns that I know I can work with.

This book is even better than I expected - full of really lovely handpieced star quilts. It is very easy to understand with clear templates for the quilts; there are also personal and historical notes throughout the book together with pictures of the original pattern pieces from the Kansas City Star newspaper which makes it even more interesting. A most inspiring book and I'm really glad I bought it. Now I just need another lifetime to make all these beautiful quilts! This book was described by HPB Dallas as secondhand in 'good' condition but when it arrived it was in 'as new' condition so I shall definitely buy from them again.

Good old quilting designs. Good selection of patternsI'll get a lot of use out of this.

Great book glad o got my copy for the pattern I searched for years for. Not sure what made the price of this book go higher than the retail price ,but am glad I purchased mine when I did
