Sanjeev Kumar : The Actor We All Loved

A legacy every Hindi Cinema fan should know
Rating -4.5/5Pros- Knowing his life beyond the screen, his friendship, family etc.The storytelling and the flow is amazing.Cons- Though the book includes it, but there could have more excerpts by his co-artists about his casting and process for the roles.Through this book, authors have tried to fill a crucial gap in the Hindi Cinema. While actors may be popular, this book highlights the fact that Sanjeev Kumar was 'people's favourite' and earned their respect. While for me before this book, he was 'Thakur' from Sholay. After this book, other than many of his roles, he was a versatile actor, 'family man', true friend and a sensitive person among others.Even if he was not a top box-office hero, he was indeed a much loved star among the history of Indian Cinema.

One of the best book I have ever read
To think about a male actor who would be intrested in learning the make-up in 70s-80s in Hindi Cinema was a shocking fact for me while I was going through this book.An artist who was one of the top-notched in theatre, acting in cinema was just a 50-metre run for him.His legacy still continues as many celebrities who worked with him or lived in that era wrote some amazing excerpts in this book, which explains the kind of man he was.

Must buy!
National award winner for Dastak in 1971 and Koshish in 1973, Harihar Jethalal Jariwala was one of the best in the industry. But for a new generation, who just saw his movies, to know about him is a pleasure. As mentioned in the book he was 'Thespian' when he sought roles in Cinema. The book focuses on the fact that he never let himself typecast, unlike others of his league.Hindi Cinema fans should definitely give this book a try!

A GREAT Read
Read the book on Sanjeev Kumar, in fact read it cover to cover within a span of a few hours, and I absolutely LOVED it! While we have grown up watching Angoor, Andhi, Sholay and so many of his films we rarely come across stories of the real Haribhai! It was intriguing, yet heart breaking to read about how misunderstood he was. Lovely insights from his family, colleagues and friends. This was truly reel to real!

Mesmerising piece of writing..
It’s about The Sanjeev Kumar, the name itself enough to say it all. Got to know many surprising facts and facets of the legend, got to know him so closely in so many diverse ways. It seems he is so much alive through the writing. Thank you so much for presenting such a wonderful gift of life… 🙏🏻

Totally disappointed!
Sanjeev Kumar has always been a favourite actor of mine. I admired the versatile actor that he was, along with his talent for his chosen career. I bought this book viewing it as a biography, giving an insight into the man behind the acting persona. I started reading with enthusiasm the first chapter, and then the next. As I read on, I realised with disappointment the true object of the book, to make money at the expense of the reader! It touches briefly on the actor's personal life. Considering Sanjeev was a friend of the husband, spending hours in conversation between them, I doubt very much she would be privy to personal information from Sanjeev himself. No man would impart personal information to a female, certainly not in a Patriarchal society! This author, therefore, has created a book from media material, things already available to everyone, and turned it jnto a book, to make money using her personal connection as the advantage! She also includes phrases in Indian languages without interpreting their meaning!I would have liked to have read what the actor was like as a boy, his relationships growing up, what made him tick! His true feelings and experiences as a child. Then later as an adult away from movies! We already know about that! There was so much hidden that made him the man he was. This was one of the most repetitive boring book I have read, and I have read quite a few. I have deleted this book from my library of online books, and will know what to avoid in the future, the cover itself should have indicated that!
