Truly brilliant.
I have always made do with a Stanley knife blade, but was making 16 large mdf doors and was persuaded by other reviews. I was using a paintable edging strip, which is quite thin, and this blade coped perfectly well with it. I set the edge of the strip level with the front of the door and trimmed the excess off the back edge - to be honest, the trimmed edge gave a better finish. I would suggest centring the edging strip on the edge of the wood and trimming both sides to get a perfect finish front and back. Pushing the blade ( rather than pulling it towards you) feels wrong at first, but it is easy to keep the tool completely flat to the face of the piece whilst maintaining just the right amount of pressure.

It works better than a Stanley knife or a chisel and is good value for money.
This was to be the first time I had used iron on edging. I wanted to do a good job and this tool seemed good value for money so I bought one. It took me a minute or so to work out how to use it. There are no instructions but the diagram on the packaging was sufficient to show how it should be used. It is better than just using a chisel as it pushes down the edging as it cuts away the surplus stopping the edging lifting as the blade cuts. A chisel or Stanley knife blade won't do this. The blade on this tool is just chamfered on one edge so it cuts exactly in line with the panel surface. A Stanley blade being chamfered on both sides will leave a very thin overhang which is just enough to catch and be damaged. The tool left a slightly rough edge easily fixed with sand paper. The manufacturers missed an opportunity by not explaining this on the packaging. As you cut the edging you need to press the edging onto the worktop firmly to stop the edging coming off. I found a better solution is to use a Stanley blade in a scraper held up a bit at an angle so the chamfer on the blade does not leave the edge a bit high.

Only has one use
Useful but I’m not sure it’s good value money or even necessary. For the same price you could buy a sharp (Stanley) knife and then have it for lots of other uses.

Very easy to use for a professional finish
Very sturdy tool to trim edge banding with a neat finish. So much easier and more accurate than trying to use a Stanley knife or blade.

Wish I read the most recent comments...
As some have said previously, the blade doesn't sit flush with the bottom surface of the knife that comes into contact with the melamine surface, it's about 1mm too high, meaning that after cutting the edging there's still about 1mm that needs to be removed. Ended up sanding that off (not ideal) and gave up using the knife after the first board and instead used a multitool I had but didn't think to use before buying this. Much more effective and quicker.I also found the blade not as sharp as I'd have thought it'd be, particularly trying to trim edging that's just above the height of the blade - it tended to push the edging down instead of cutting it.On the plus side, it did arrive very quickly and I got a refund after complaining about it, both thanks to Amazon.

Does not work
I’m not sure the type of edging this is meant to cut. I have two types, it won’t cut either. I haven’t sent it back as the laminate has damaged the unit. The blade is not effective. If I’m doing something wrong, perhaps there should be instructions.

Simple but effective
Such a simple design, but works really well. Recommended.
