Can you use this to view whole bugs? Or does it just magnifie So you only see really enlarged sections of the bug?

I'd say 5 is slightly too young, but all kids are different! Manufacturer recommend age is 8 but if your prepared to be a bit more "hands on" it might be OK as its a pretty simple microscope. Journal would need reading assistance too...

As it is a gift, I set it up and checked it. I found that whichever magnfication is used there is a spot in the middle of the field of view. Help!

Hi, I can confirm if you refer to steps 8 and 9 of the included instruction booklet on page 7, it will explain clearly how to set the microscope up. Please ensure you have inserted the batteries to work the light and a pre-made slide to test the microscope. If you are still having problems and you believe the product to be faulty, please contact our customer service team on customerservice@learning-resources.co.uk and they will look into the issue further for you! does this have prepared slides and blank slides for them to make their own?

We thought it would be of good quality , as this model microscope is also sold by the science museum, it is a frustrating toy, especially disappointing for the child who was so excited to receive it. I don't know which model we should have bought but this was a waste of money. We think that you should take advice, perhaps the school science teacher ? Good luck !
