Aquasteel Rust Converter and Primer 1 Litre
I've used this for a couple of winters keeping the rust at bay on a transit van and thought I'd share my experiences. This stuff is great and works really well if used correctly. The main point I can't stress enough is use it in warm, dry weather. Although the tech data sheet says min 6 deg C, the finish in cold, damp conditions is thin, brittle and 'pre-cracked': that is, it forms a sort of crazing which is perfect for moisure to get into and start levering little bits off again, so it won't last long. Similarly in damp conditions the chemical reaction seems a bit half-hearted and it never really cures properly. When the weather's warm and dry, the finish is more like a tough cured black resin, particularly when you've sploshed on a couple of coats. Second, depending on how thick the rust was to start with it may still be there underneath - deactivated but biding its time and waiting for a weakness! Like all coatings, the moment a stone chip exposes the rust to air/moisture again, even just a pinprick- it will get going again. Therefore the product is best regarded as a primer, think about what's going on top to prevent damage to the hard surface whether it's paint or waxoyl etc. Third, just to reiterate the instructions on the bottle - get all the flaky stuff off first. The stuff is good but it can't turn rust back to metal. If that means jabbing with a screwdriver with increasing concern as a tiny hole expands into a major welding job - well it was going to happen anyway! One of the pleasures of old car ownership in the UK. Finally I found that doing a reasonable job on all the rusty bits on the van used about 1 litre bottle. Hope this helps someone.

Good and it works low cost and out performs market leader
Used on a car restoration to convert some rust which didn't require cutting out.previously I had used some hammerite Kurust so did a side by side comparison test. I coated the rusty box section with Kurust and at the side used aquasteel I then left to cure they both turned black and the Kurust appeared strongerI then applied salt water to the pair of samples and allowed to dry once dry I reapplied more salt water and left them in the sun, later that night the rain came down and the following morning I checked on the samples. The aquasteel was still as it was left with no signs of rust reappearing or breaking through, the Kurust however was starting to breakout in rust again.a couple of notes the test was extreme the salt water was very salty and left in the exposed sun and rain and both products are meant to be painted over and that would make a difference in itself.saying that the aquasteel was as it was when it was applied and was a winner for me its the one I will be using in the future. The samples are still in the open and I'll be watching them over the coming months and winter to see what happens and will update here

Does the job.
Hi. I used this on the badly rusted roof frame of an old garage after the asbestos roof was removed. The garage is in good nick but the metal roof frame was a disaster.I tried all sorts to remove the rust before using this product but ended up with a couple of wire brushes as they got into the narrow angle iron easier than anything else. There was lots of loose rust and of course that’s best removed before coating. Not a technical job just a pain to do and it’s a Big garage.Anyway… excess rust removed and I applied aqua steel with a two inch brush. I didn’t slap it on but I didn’t stint either. Well coated and when dry it was quite a dark almost shiny finish.I started painting, which was a doddle on the new surface but decided the frame looked good enough as it was. Saved a lot of work.New profile roof, no water ingress, absolutely dry inside and I have complete confidence in the aquasteel.A crackin product, it saved the roof frame and saved me big bucks for new roof trusses. The finish left on the metal is hard and stable.

Absolutely amazing product!!!
Superb product, does exactly what is says on the .... bottle :)Just brush it on and leave for twenty four hours, job done. You can paint or prime after and it holds back the rust for a long time. I painted a gate many years ago with this gear and it still looks great to this day! There are a few tiny pits of rust forming now but considering that it has weathered the storm for years, I am truly amazed at what this product does. Just make sure that all the flakey rust/paint is gone before application. I used a 1" brush and cover the areas I needed and then washed it in warn soapy water immediately after - this is very important otherwise you will end up with a soiled brush! If you have sensitive skin wear gloves and goggles if you are painting upside down, it goes without saying that you can replace a set of goggles but NOT your eyes!

Fantastic rust converter
Used this to protect some old weight plates in the garage from rusting during damp weather. It turns the rust black/blue and leaves an additional translucent protective layer on top. It has made the old iron plates appear rejuvenated. Friction may remove the outer protective/sealing layer over time but having witnessed the conversion of the rust underneath I think it has already done everything I wanted it to do. It goes a long way, I bought one litre and that's going to last for years. It saves a massive amount of time and effort compared to removing every trace of rust and priming and painting new (it can be effectively used as a primer layer apparently). Fantastic product!
