A must have book in your Art collection.
I would say an indispensable book to own. A clear explanation of the technique with great clear examples from start to finish.

Almost Perfect...not quite but pretty close!
Excellent book in most ways! Sixty of Bob Ross's paintings and instructions on how you can duplicate them. Plus a helpful introduction, (as Bob calls it) on what you need and some of the techinques used throughout. There is one problem though...and it is, relatively speaking, a huge one. You see, obviously, painting is a VISUAL art...and Bob, whose "Joy of Painting' series was a huge sucess, (and, in fact, became a 'cottage industry' for him..painting supplies, brushes, palette knives and so forth) is a very visual teacher. And the this book and (I'd be willing to place a sizable wager on this) any other of his books, (and there are quite a few) cannot possibly protray precisly HOW Bob does it...(and in his shows, made it look staggeringly easy. He made us belive, and I mean really, really belive, that any klutz could turn out a wonderful painting, just like he did. Can you? I'm not sure. I am a well known klutz with absolutly no artistic talent in my body. Not Bob Ross at all. I am really leaning toward trying this myself...Regardless of my comments, this is a wonderful book, with equally wonderful paintings illustrated. Yes, at least one other reviewer pointed out, the 'how-to'photos are all in black and white, and yeah, it sure would be helpful if they were also in color...(the way the photos of the paintings are) but that is actually a small thing. If you are a Bob Ross fan, and it is very hard not to be, this book is well worth obtaining...Watching a few episodes of this show on YouTube will answer most questions the commentary leaves...

Good overall explanation of Bob Ross technique - Only book you need
I purchased this book shortly after taking a class in painting the Bob Ross way. The book offers a good explanation of his techniques, and contains many pictures with detailed instructions for painting. The instructions are clear, and easy to follow. It is obvious that many of his painting follow the same general theme, but once you learn the techniques it would be easy to branch out and do your own painting. Having this book means that for the most part you do not need any of the others in the series. I am not an artist, but I found that I get great pleasure from being able to create a painting of my own that looks good.Note: You must be willing to invest some money into buying the Bob Ross brand of paints and brushes to make this technique work well. Also, you need to finish the work in one sitting or it becomes difficult to make the paints do the same thing on a dry surface.

My nephew loved it
Bob Ross is old hat for me; I used to watch him on TV when I was a child. My nephew is eager to learn to paint and this filled the bill for him at the time. Now he's into more advanced stuff.
