Hawk Wind Indicator MK2, Multicoloured (hk2)

TLDR; fits small sailboat masts, works perfectly, tells me exactly where the wind is coming from. Pros: easy to assemble and mount to a small sailboat mast (I use a Sunfish), works perfectly, perfectly, perfectly (that bears repeating) Cons: it's very light and feels sort of flimsy, and if you capsize a lot it might not survive (I have not capsized so I have no evidence of this). A little on the pricey side. UPDATE: I capsized a Sunfish twice. Full turtle. The Hawk survived both. So don't worry, it can DEFINITELY survive a complete capsize. I just started sailing, and I sail on a lake, which means the wind is always switching directions, speeds, and as a beginning sailor, I could never figure out if I was screwing up or the wind was messing with me. Some days I would tack and jibe like I was born to it, other times I can't figure out where the wind is coming from if my life depended on it. I found this neat little gadget and decided to give it a try. The design is amazing, simple, and even in very light winds it is true, which was obvious from the first time I used it. At a glance I know how to trim the Sunfish's sail. And when speed would fall off or the telltales would droop a quick glance at this little gadget would tell me that the wind had died, or changed direction (or both). ***HIGHLY RECOMMEND*** (even at this price point) Note: there are no instructions, so be aware of two things: 1. Make sure to back out the set screw on the bunjee mount a little, insert the vane rod, and tighten the set screw to hold it in place. 2. Make sure to snap the vane to the end of the vane rod, and it will spin freely but not fall out (see pics) Have fun!

We enjoy having a quick way to view wind while we sail on the 16' Hobie. Highly recommend. It does a great job and is easy to attach.

Very simple and reliable wind indicator that I fit on the low part of the mast on my Sunfish sailboat. Reasonably priced, and durable.

Goes on the Sunfish. Just about right for novice and experienced. Hasn't broken yet but we'll see when next we dump the Fish in the drink. Had Hawk's before. I'm a fan.

Perfect wind indicator for a small dinghy. I bring it with me when I sell either sunfish, laser or 420 sailboat in my community sailing program. I can easily move it from boat to boat.

Works well on Blokart land yacht mast. Holds tightly. Price better than original, but works just as well.

Product arrived way before Amazon's date. I ordered this because of its offset design which is what I needed for my weather monitoring station which is mounted on a pole and it has the clearance to freely rotate without coming into contact with other components. Nice simple design which is now in service telling me the prevailing wind direction.

Convert the size to inches before deciding. I wanted this for my yard and was worried my wife would get mad for hanging up a large eyesore. Well I put it out back and she can't even see it. Neither can I. Ridiculously tiny. 30 bucks? Come on. Update: On the mast in the back yard it just spins in circles. It is not long enough to hold a direction. Those saying they use this on their boat must be lost at sea. A 24 inch ribbon is a better indicator.
