Won't hold a load
If there is any load whatsoever placed on the buckle, it will open. For this reason, it is actually useless as a buckle. I guess it's useful if you're looking for the buckle appearance, without any buckle qualities.

Spring loaded catch rocks
Like these latches a lot. Stainless. Could be a bit heavier. They may be too light for my application, but that’s on me. The latches are very nice. Easy to install. The screws that come with them are wrong. Need machine head, not wood screw head.
